From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brighton snatched a point with a stoppage-time penalty.

Referee Anthony Taylor adjudged Duffy to have been fouled by James Ward-Prowse and Glenn Murray made no mistake from the spot to force a 2-2 draw.

60 minutes

The game reaches the hour mark at St Mary's. Still 1-0 to the hosts though Brighton fans will be pleased with how their team has come out after halftime. They are pressing higher and harder and harrying their hosts.

63 MINUTES: PENALTY FOR SOUTHAMPTON

Danny Ings turns and goes past a couple of Brighton players, surging into the box where Gaeten Bong scythes him down.

Stonewall.

AND INGS DUSTS HIMSELF OFF TO COOLY SLOT HOME. 2-0.

He pauses, gives Mathew Ryan the eyes and sweeps the ball to the keeper's right. Another goal for the revitalised striker.

BRIGHTON BACK IN IT!

A free-kick on the right-hand side 35 yards out is enticingly whipped in by Anthony Knockaert and Shane Duffy is on hand to rise and head into the bottom corner.

It is opening up, this one.

Nathan Redmond again threatens with a run into the box but opts to shoot when a square pass was perhaps a better option.

A first change for Brighton. Chris Hughton brings on Alireza Jahanbakhsh for Solly March. The Iranian scored 21 times in the Eredivisie last season and now would be a welcome occasion for his first Premier League goal.

A certain penalty...

Changes afoot. Three of them in fact.

Southampton introduce Manolo Gabbiadini and James Ward-Prowse for Mohamed Elyounoussi and Shane Long.

Brighton make another attacking alteration, with powerful forward Jurgen Locadia on for Yves Bissouma.

Plenty of attacking options on the pitch for the visitors as they press for an equaliser. A clever flick from Jahanbakhsh is just wide.
