From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After the lively north London derby ended 1-1, attention now turns to the rest of today's fixtures which could shape up to be entertaining affairs in their own right.
Although Swansea may be struggling to find their feet this season - they're without a win in their last nine league games - the Swans hold a commendable record against Manchester United, their opponents today.
Indeed, the South Wales outfit have won three of their last four league meetings with United so today's clash at the Liberty Stadium will be one to keep an eye out for.
Elsewhere, Leicester entertain West Brom at the King Power Stadium, Hull take on Southampton and Liverpool and Watford go head-to-head at Anfield.

83mins: Swansea are pushing for a second and they almost found it through a well constructed move which resulted in Mo Barrow scuffing his effort tamely at David De Gea at the back post. Better from the Swans though.
85mins: Nasty collision with Barrow leaves Darmian in a heap. The Italian seems have clashed knees with the winger as he looked to pass him. Looked a sore one but nothing too serious.
87mins: Wayne Rooney has the ball in the back of the net but he's been caught in an offside position. The forward latched onto Ibrahimovic's through ball to round the keeper and slot into an empty net but the official put a halt to his celebrations.
Full time: Swansea 1-3 Manchester United
A Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace and a wonder goal from Paul Pogba condemned Swansea to another defeat and put an end to United's four game winless streak. Mike van der Hoorn headed in a consolation goal for Swansea but it merely salvaged some pride for the home side who are still yet to win a game under Bob Bradley.
