Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Maurizio Sarri makes his competitive debut as Chelsea manager as they take on Huddersfield Town on the opening weekend of the Premier League, with four games kicking-off at 3pm.

Chelsea will attempt to keep pace with Manchester United after they beat Leicester City on Friday night, but all eyes will be on their news manager Sarri as well as summer signing Jorginho who followed the manager from Napoli.

Two of the promoted clubs are also in action as Fulham take on Crystal Palace and Cardiff City travel to Bournemouth, while Watford host Brighton and Hove Albion. In the day’s late game, Wolves host a new-look Everton side at Molineux as the return to the top flight.

Ruben Neves the man of the moment, and the talk of social media at half-time

SECOND HALF: We are back underway, and it's Wolves that kick us off. They'll go into this 45 with plenty of confidence and a man advantage

Molly Hudson11 August 2018 18:35

50 mins: Everton have a corner, Walcott almost got a chance from the knockdown, but he can't link up with Gueye down the right and possession is back with Wolves

Molly Hudson11 August 2018 18:40

54 mins: The rain really pouring down now at Molineux and an inch perfect pass from Richarlison through to Walcott skidded off the surface and out for a throw in. Even the pacy Walcott wouldn't keep up with that one

Gareth Southgate in attendance at Molineux, he'll be keeping a close eye on the centre back pairing of Mason Holgate and Michael Keane - a big half for those two as they try to keep Wolves at bay.

58 mins: CHANCE for Everton! Tosun opta to take a shot from the edge of the box which Patricio is equal to, but he really should have played in Theo Walcott close to the goal, and more likely to score. Still, chances for Everton despite their 10 men

Molly Hudson11 August 2018 18:49

60 mins: Now it's Wolves with the big chance, as Jimenez is through one-on-one with Pickford, who stands gets off his line and stands firm to block his effort. Should do better, and Wolves should be ahead

Molly Hudson11 August 2018 18:51

65 mins: Richarlison with good work from a cross, manages to head it into the path of Walcott who can't quite keep his footing and get a shot away. Still chances for both sides particularly with such a slippery surface

67 mins: GOAL! Wolves 1-2 Everton (Richarlison)

I said there was plenty of chances for both sides, and here's one created and converted by Richarlison! The Brazilian runs to the left, turns his body to the right and guides his shot from the edge of the area past Patricio. We are set for a frantic end to this one...
