From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

3 mins: GOAL! HULL 0 BOURNEMOUTH 1:

Junior Stanislas makes no mistake from the penalty spot, smashing the ball down the middle of Eldin Jakupovic's goal. Marco Silva's Premier League debut as Hull City manager is off to the worst possible start.

Moving scenes at Vicarage Road in tribute to Watford's greatest son.

7 mins: DISALLOWED GOAL! WATFORD 0 MIDDLESBROUGH 0:

The ball is in the back of the net at Vicarage Road, but it's not going to count. Cristhian Stuani steered past Heurelho Gomes after Alvaro Negredo had nodded down, but the Uruguayan was a yard ahead of his marker and was correctly flagged offside. However, it's an early warning for the out-of-form Hornets.

15 mins: GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0 STOKE 1:

Stoke City take the lead at the Stadium of Light! Marko Arnautovic took control in the box, and although Vito Mannone was equal to the Austrian's first effort, the Austrian was alert enough to smash home at the second attempt.

A welcome return...

...unless you're David Moyes.

21 mins: GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0 STOKE 2:

Two for Stoke City, two for Marko Arnautovic! After failing to score in 12 matches, the Austrian now has two in six minutes after finishing a brilliant team move that saw him play one-twos with Charlie Adam and then Peter Crouch before beating Vito Mannone at the near post. It's a long way back for the Black Cats now.

27 mins: West Ham 0 Crystal Palace 0:

I've just tuned into the action at the London Stadium for the first time this afternoon to be greeted by the sight of Andy Carroll, rolling around injured on the pitch. Some things never change.

The West Ham striker is back up in the thick of the action, if the action is jumping up and down on the spot, shouting at referee Neil Swarbrick for ignoring handball claims in the box.

32 mins: GOAL! HULL 1 BOURNEMOUTH 1:

Abel Hernandez has levelled it up at the KCOM Stadium. The Uruguayan striker has only his second of the season as he rose to head home Andy Robertson's perfect left-wing cross. Welcome relief for the Premier League's bottom club and their new manager.

34 mins: GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0 STOKE 3:

Peter Crouch has his 99th Premier League goal, and some Sunderland fans have decided that they have seen enough of this first half. It's a trademark header from the veteran striker, who gets up highest to beat Vito Mannone with the Sunderland stopper out of position after spilling Xherdan Shaqiri's shot. David Moyes' men are in big trouble.

37 mins: GOAL! SWANSEA 0 ARSENAL 1:

Olivier Giroud has scored in every Premier League match he has started this season, and it's a run he's continued at the Liberty Stadium after poking in from five yards out. The Frenchman was roaming in the right place to convert after Mesut Ozil's header from Alexis Sanchez's cross had been blocked at close range.
