Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Players and fans observed a minute's applause in memory of the late Cyrille Regis prior to kick-off
10' - Kyle Walker goes for goal from distance but his shot sails about 50 metres over the crossbar. Truly, truly woeful effort.
15' - After a strong start by Newcastle, City have absolutely dominated the last 10 minutes or so. The visitors are struggling to cope with City's high press and are conceding possession far too cheaply.
18' - Raheem Sterling tucks the ball home at the far post from David Silva's low cross... but the linesman's flag is up to spare the blushes of Joselu, who had given the ball away cheaply in the build-up to the goal!
Correct decision.
24' - It's been attack vs defence for the last 20 minutes of this match. I'll let you guess which side is doing the attacking and which side is doing the defending.
In fairness to Newcastle, City are yet to create a clear-cut chance.
31' - Kevin De Bruyne takes aim with a free-kick from a tight angle but, uncharacteristically, the Belgian blazes the ball well over the crossbar.
De Bruyne is usually so good with dead balls.
32' - Raheem Sterling cuts inside past Paul Dummett and onto his left foot before shooting straight at Karl Darlow.
