Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino has explained his decision to leave Virgil van Dijk out of his squad for today's game against Huddersfield - and it makes interesting reading for Liverpool fans.

"He is available but I decided this is the best team for today. We have got many games in a row this week. This is the decision."

GOAL! West Ham 1-0 Newcastle (Arnautovic, 5)

Marko Arnautovic jinks past Jamaal Lascelles before drilling the ball beyond Rob Elliott in the Newcastle goal from inside the area. What a start for West Ham.

GOAL! West Ham 1-1 Newcastle (Saviet, 10)

The referee blows for a foul on Matt Ritchie and Henri Saviet, who conceded possession in the build-up to West Ham's opener, takes the resulting free-kick, bending the ball beyond Adrian and into the bottom corner.

Manchester City 0-0 Bournemouth

City concede possession in a dangerous area as David Silva's pass hits referee Mark Jones and rebounds back to a Bournemouth player. The Cherries work the ball well down the right and Jordon Ibe's cross is turned just wide by Junior Stanislas.

Stanislas injures himself in the process of shooting and is replaced by Marc Pugh.

Swansea 0-0 Crystal Palace

Andros Townsend almost gives Palace the lead in south Wales but his rifled effort is expertly tipped over the crossbar by Lukasz Fabianski. Wonderful play all-round.

Manchester City 0-0 Bournemouth

Chance! Nicolas Otamendi finds fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero in the Bournemouth area with a lovely ball over the top. Aguero's first touch is superb but his second is less so, as he sends a shot over the crossbar from around 10 yards out.
