Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Rafa Benitez takes on his former side Liverpool for the first time since guiding Newcastle back into the Premier League, and has the chance to leapfrog the Reds if they can pull off what would be a famous home victory at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have Aleksandar Mitrovic back from suspension, although the striker is unlikely to start with Joselu expected to remain in the side, while Florian Lejeune returns from the ankle injury he suffered on the opening weekend of the season.
Liverpool are still without long-term absentees Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana, but Sadio Mane returns from suspension and is almost certain to start. More importantly though, Jürgen Klopp will want to see his side record an important victory after a run of one win in their last six matches.

What time does it start?
Newcastle vs Liverpool kicks off at St James’ Park at 16:30.
Where can I watch it?
The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event from 16:15. Highlights will be shown on BBC One from 22.30.
3 mins: Liverpool break forward and Mohamed Salah finds Sadio Mane who returns the pass in the box but Salah can't latch onto the ball and Newcastle clear.
8 mins: Jamaal Lascelles picks up the ball inside the Liverpool half and fires a low shot that is comfortably saved by Simon Mignolet. The Newcastle captain is on a good scoring run but he'll have to do better than that to add to his tally.
12 mins: Jonjo Shelvey picks up the ball on the edge of the area and passes sideways to Matt Ritchie who curls a shot which is saved. It feels like one of those days that Shelvey will either score or get sent off.
16 mins: Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge combine on the edge of the area to set up the latter with a shooting opportunity which is blocked by Jamaal Lacelles. A few half-hearted penalty appeals for handball came from the players but the referee, Criag Pawson, says no penalty.
19 mins: Mohamed Salah breaks away from the defence and appears through on goal but DeAndre Yedlin appears out of nowhere to dispossess the forward.
How have Liverpool not scored?
23 mins: About six Liverpool players have missed sitters. From a corner Georginio Wijnaldum hits the post with a header and a series of players in red try to shoot with the ball falling to Dejan Lovren who scuffs the ball wide to Sadio Mane who fires wide. Jurgen Klopp, along with the Liverpool fans, rolls his eyes.
Goal!
Newcastle 0-1 Liverpool
29 mins: What a screamer. Philippe Coutinho picks up the ball on the left, takes it past two and curls it into the net at the near post.
Goal!
Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool
35 mins: A perfect defence splitting pass from Jonjo Shelvey plays in Joselu who is through on goal. Joel Matip makes up the ground and tackles the ball onto the forward which trundles into the net.
