From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Fulham will be looking to move off the bottom of the table when they travel to the north east to take on Newcastle.
Claudio Ranieri's first game in charge against Southampton remains his sole victory as Fulham manager since replacing Slavisa Jokanovic in mid-November, and the Italian saw his side put in a dismal home display in a 2-0 loss to West Ham last weekend.
Meanwhile, Newcastle's win at Huddersfield was just their fourth victory of the season, but put Rafael Benitez's side four points clear of the relegation zone.

Player to watch…
Salomon Rondon: The Venezuelan needed just one chance to settle the game at Huddersfield, taking his top-flight tally to four for the season. The goals have been invaluable to Benitez's side, and his latest was the reward for the hard work chasing down lost causes for much of the game. If Newcastle are to go further clear of the drop zone, they will need the ex-Malaga forward to add to that number over the festive period.

Five goals, three points - a very happy Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Manchester United good, Cardiff poor, and it finishes 5-1.

Promising signs for Solskjaer's Manchester United, though Cardiff were pretty dire. Would Manchester United have taken them apart so comprehensively with Jose Mourinho still at the helm? I think they may still have done...
Nevertheless, a welcome return to Cardiff for the new Manchester United manager.

That's all from us here tonight after an action-packed day of footballing action. Manchester City and Chelsea faltered at home, Arsenal got back to winning ways at lunchtime and Manchester United kick-started a new era in impressive fashion this evening.
