Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Newcastle remain one of two clubs in the Premier League without a win this season and face Southampton, who have not started as they would have liked under Mark Hughes. After a run of tricky fixtures against Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, Rafa Benitez, who says he wants to stay at the club amid speculation about his future, will be targeting a win at St Mary’s to kick-start their campaign.
Meanwhile, Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic received owner Shahid Khan’s vote of confidence following the London side’s 4-2 defeat against Cardiff in their last match. After spending over £100m on players in the summer, Fulham are the league’s worst defenders by some stretch and could be exposed by Bournemouth’s counter-attacking side.
Elsewhere Brighton host Wolves and Watford play Huddersfield, the second side still searching for a league win. Follow it all live:

It's another bad day for Fulham. Wilson gets his second and Bournemouth's third at Craven Cottage.
Liverpool 4-1 Cardiff
90 minutes
Cardiff might feel unfortunate to have fallen three goals behind. It certainly hasn't been the drubbing many might have expected. But Liverpool's quality in the final third has, in the end, proved the difference.
Three minutes of added time.
Full time: Liverpool 4-1 Cardiff
That's it. Liverpool, as expected, secure a comfortable win over Cardiff, thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Top of the league
Liverpool move three points clear at the top of the Premier League, at least until Monday when Manchester City meet Spurs. It's been an impressive start to the season.

If there was a positive for Cardiff today, it's that they ended a long-standing record:
Premier League results

Southampton 0-0 Newcastle United
Liverpool 4-1 Cardiff City
Fulham 0-3 AFC Bournemouth
