From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

A tepid Manchester United dented their hopes of catching up with the Premier League's top four after failing to spark in a dour 0-0 home draw with 15th-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The result left United in seventh place on 21 points from 13 games, 14 adrift of leaders Manchester City and six behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who were hosting third-placed Chelsea in the 1730 GMT kick-off.

Striker Romelu Lukaku returned to United's starting line-up after being dropped in four previous games in all competitions but he looked rusty and the home side were fortunate to scrape a share of the spoils against the more adventurous visitors.

Wilfried Zaha and Patrick Van Aanholt came close for Palace in the opening half and Cheikhou Kouyate had a goal correctly disallowed for marginal offside, while keeper Wayne Hennessey denied Jesse Lingard at the other end.

Lukaku also had a goal scrapped for fractional offside in the 57th minute before Andros Townsend spurned a gilt-edged chance for Palace when he shot wide from 10 metres after a good solo run.

Having introduced Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez in the second half, United manager Jose Mourinho finished the match with all his forwards on the pitch but the home side failed to carve out any supply routes in the closing stages.

What time does it start?

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace kicks off at 3pm (BST) on Saturday 24 November.

Where can I watch it?

The match will not be shown live on TV or online in the UK.

Independent Sport will keep you up to date with all the goals as they fly in via our live blog.

Highlights will be shown at 10:30pm on BBC One.

Player to watch…

Anthony Martial: The Frenchman pulled out of international duty with an abductor injury, but has been in excellent form of late. The 22-year-old has scored three goals in four games, including the penalty in United’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City. United’s best attacking work against City came through Martial, and while he wasn’t at his efficient best he will no doubt be a threat to the Palace defence.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea (Dele Alli, 8 minutes)

First blood to Spurs!

David Luiz is adjudged to have fouled Harry Kane wide on the right and Christian Eriksen curls the free kick in with pace.

Dele Alli glances it on and the ball bursts through Kepa's hands, flying into the far corner to give Tottenham an early lead.

Another huge chance for Spurs!

Chelsea are a mess defensively and are torn apart by a simple one-two, and Heung-Min Son should do better from Christian Eriksen's outside of the foot retort.

Son half-volleys rather wildly with the side of his foot.

Now Chelsea come forward and Cesar Azpilicueta's ball somehow evades three or four yellow shirts in the Tottenham area, allowing Juan Foyth to clear.

End-to-end stuff.

Spurs break and Heung-Min Son embarrasses Antonio Rudiger with a cheeky turn.

Son again fails to beat Kepa, who saves at his near post.

Penalty appeal for the away team...

Eden Hazard goes down under contact from Juan Foyth, You've seen them given...

Son is again unable to force a finish as Tottenham find space once again. The South Korean winger is crowded out. An outstanding start to this game.

GOAL! Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea (Harry Kane, 16 minutes)

A lovely strike! Spurs have a 2-0 lead.

Harry Kane cuts inside onto his right foot, as is his wont in London derbies, and opts to shoot.

David Luiz seems well positioned to block but for some reason chooses to sway out of the way of the ball.

Kepa is unsighted, the ball nestles in the bottom corner and Chelsea are 2-0 down.

Spurs are tearing Chelsea asunder.

Antonio Rudiger receives the first caution of the evening, hauling down Harry Kane after being beaten rather easily wide on the left.

20 minutes

Spurs work a move to allow Moussa Sissoko a sighter at goal, but the Frenchman takes about ten years to line up his strike, allowing compatriot N'Golo Kante to nip the ball away and prevent Sissoko unfurling whatever piece of magnificence he was surely crafting.

It's still 2-0, though, and Mauricio Pochettino will be a happy man so far.

Dele Alli headed Spurs into the lead 8 minutes in.

Harry Latham-Coyle24 November 2018 17:52

22 minutes

A nasty collision between Dele Alli and David Luiz sees the latter lying prone after clearing the ball.

There is nothing untoward in Alli's actions (he is simply jumping to block the ball) but the pair clash legs and Luiz appears to be in some pain.

He trudges off on his own accord. He should be fit to continue.
