From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Merseysiders have endured a mixed start to the season, with a thrashing of Arsenal followed by a collapse against Manchester City encapsulating their inconsistency.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to be at their best against a United side who sit joint top and are so far unbeaten in the league.
Although the likes of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini will be missing from midfield, United are full of confidence having won six games on the bounce.
Liverpool’s main injury absence is Sadio Mane who picked up a strained hamstring while away on international duty with Senegal.

It’s a big game for…
Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has scored in every game bar one that he has played at club and international level this season. After the defining move of his career, one to a club with the stature of Manchester United too, he has seamlessly acclimatised to his new surroundings. But doubts linger over his ability to perform against the biggest opponents, with critics accusing him of being a ‘flat track bully’. Saturday afternoon in the cauldron of Anfield – against United’s old rivals Liverpool – would be the perfect time to prove his calibre.
Player to watch…
Ander Herrera. The Spaniard was one of the vital cogs in United’s midfield last season but with the arrival of Nemanja Matic has found playing time increasingly hard to come by. Injuries to Pogba and Fellaini mean he is in line to make just his second league start of the season. Will he be fresh and raring to go, or feeling a bit rusty?

41' - Roberto Firmino drills the ball in towards Mo Salah on the edge of the United penalty area. The Egyptian takes a touch before shooting but his effort is straight down David de Gea's throat.
42' - Mesmerising footwork from Philippe Coutinho. The little Brazilian picks up the ball just outside the United penalty area before driving down the left but his cross is deflected into the arms of David de Gea.
43' - What a chance! Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial exchange passes on the edge of the Liverpool penalty area before the Belgian takes aim at Simon Mignolet's goal from 15 yards out. His shot is at a good height for the Reds goalkeeper though and Mignolet parries the ball away.
Half-time - Martin Atkinson brings an end to the opening period of the match.
47' - Phil Jones gives the ball away to Emre Can in a dangerous position and he feeds Philippe Coutinho down the left. The Reds' No10 squares up Chris Smalling before delivering a cross in towards Roberto Firmino but the flag goes up for offside as Firmino's shot is blocked by Jones.
49' - Roberto Firmino sees his shot from a tricky angle deflected into the side netting. The resultant Liverpool corner comes to nothing though.
53' - Philippe Coutinho picks the ball up on the halfway line before driving at the United defence and threading a pass through to Roberto Firmino. His low shot is saved by David de Gea but it wouldn't have counted anyway as the flag is up for offside against the Brazilian again.
