From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s the big one: Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in Sunday’s late kick-off, hoping to become the first side to beat Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool welcome back their star man Mohamed Salah, but Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are all out injured. A win will take Liverpool – currently level on points with Tottenham Hotspur – above Chelsea in the table.

City will meanwhile welcome back a number of players after he shuffled his pack for the club’s EFL Cup game against Bristol City. But Gabriel Jesus, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy all remain out. City currently enjoy a 15-point lead at the top of the table.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 Manchester City (Firmino)

60' - That's delicious.

Roberto Firmino shrugs John Stones off the ball to get on the end of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's through ball and finishes with aplomb, dinking a cute finish over the onrushing Ederson and in off the post.

61' - Close!

Liverpool almost double their lead instantly but are denied by the woodwork as Sadio Mane curls a shot wide from just outside the box!

GOAL! Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City (Mane)

62' - Mo Salah robs Nicolas Otamendi of the ball before feeding Sadio Mane... and this time the Liverpool winger makes no mistake with the finish as he plants a left-footed shot into the top corner.

Will City's hopes of emulating Arsenal's Invincibles of 2004 come to an end this afternoon? It certainly looks that way.

He's the second player to be booked this afternoon after Roberto Firmino was cautioned for taking his shirt off in celebration after putting Liverpool 2-1 up.
