From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s the big one: Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in Sunday’s late kick-off, hoping to become the first side to beat Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool welcome back their star man Mohamed Salah, but Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are all out injured. A win will take Liverpool – currently level on points with Tottenham Hotspur – above Chelsea in the table.

City will meanwhile welcome back a number of players after he shuffled his pack for the club’s EFL Cup game against Bristol City. But Gabriel Jesus, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy all remain out. City currently enjoy a 15-point lead at the top of the table.

Kick-off at Anfield is just 30 minutes away!

A win for Manchester City will see them extend their lead at the top of the table to a ridiculous 18 points, while a victory for Liverpool will move them up to third, level on points with Chelsea but with a superior goal difference.

Pre-match quotes from Jurgen Klopp

On Virgil van Dijk's omission from the squad: "He's a little bit injured. Not too serious. If this was the last game of the season, maybe we would risk him. But it's not so we can't risk him."

On Karius starting ahead of Mignolet in goal: "If Loris is able to perform then he will stay in the goal, that's how it is."
