England international Rashford scored his eighth goal in 13 outings to earn a 1-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.
Solskjaer's 10th game in charge brought a ninth win, with revived United not needing to leave third gear.
Paul Pogba and Rashford combined to seal another victory and the pair now have 12 goals under Solskjaer having struggled so badly under Jose Mourinho.
United are now just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Re-live the action below:

United try to find a way into Leicester's box from the right but the home side defend well and can move into an attack of their own. Chilwell whips one into the box but Lindelof heads it De Gea and the attack comes to nothing.

Leicester open up Utd again with Barnes taking a shot from the left side of the box sending it wide of the far post.

Quality defending from both teams, Leicester shut out Man Utd and break with Ghezzal but MAtic gets back and forces him into traffic allowing Utd to get the ball back up the pitch.

Leicester have a free kick and Ghezzal thunders it towards goal but De Gea makes a diving save to his left.
Rashford is replaced by Lukaku.

Luke Shaw makes a foul on the right wing near his own box and Leicester have a free kick. The ball finds Maguire who heads it back across goal to Evans who misses the ball when he tries to shoot.

Iheanacho replaces Mendy as Man Utd win a free kick on the halfway line.
87 mins: Leicester 0 - 1 Man Utd
Lukaku times a challenge on Chilwell perfectly and wins the ball, he gives it to Pogba and runs to the right wing. Pogba sees him and sends the ball. Lukaku brings it inside and takes a shot but Schmeichel saves it.
Barnes get sent down the left wing for Leicester and he squares the ball to Vardy who shoots and finds De Gea.
89 mins: Leicester 0 - 1 Man Utd
Leicester look the most likely to score here and Solskjaer thinks so as well as Lingard is replaced by Phil Jones.
