Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Liverpool survived an embarrassing mistake from Brazil goalkeeper Alisson to beat Leicester 2-1 on Saturday for a fourth straight win to open the Premier League season.

Attempting a Cruyff turn in his own area to get round Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho, Alisson got the ball caught in his feet and lost possession. Iheanacho squared the ball for Rachid Ghezzal to make it 2-1 in the 63rd minute.

Liverpool held on for the win despite being far from its best at King Power Stadium, with first-half goals by Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino doing the damage.

Prediction

Leicester 1-3 Liverpool

26 mins: Gray takes another pot shot, this time from about 30 yards out but it sails over the bar.

Liverpool forced to think a tad more.

31 mins: Leicester continue to probe but the majority of shots are from long range and aren't troubling the back line or the keeper.

36 mins: Little else happening here. Sorry to say.

Doesn't look impressed, does he?

Nathan Jacobs1 September 2018 13:08

CHANCE! Salah tests Kasper Schmeichel, curling his left footed attempt from the edge of the box to the bottom right.

Corner Liverpool.

It's eerily quiet at King Power.

GOAL! (Firmino, 44) Leicester 0-2 Liverpool

And can you blame the crowd? They've been the second best side and Liverpool double their lead just before the break.

A corner is whipped in and Firmino beats Maddison to the ball and heads unmarked into the Leicester net.

HALF TIME: Leicester 0-2 Liverpool

The Reds are in cruise control and take in a two goal advantage into the second half.

They're still yet to concede in the Premier League this season and are just going from strength to strength.

 Boring Boring Milner...

Nathan Jacobs1 September 2018 13:21

 I shouldn't type anything, should I?

Of course Firmino scores!
