From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Charlie Adam's 65-yard wonder strike was voted the best goal of a weekend full with them.
The Stoke City midfielder showed incredible vision and skill to beat Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from 64.5 yards away at Stamford Bridge.
More than 1,500 readers voted in our poll as we asked which goal was the very best.
Although plenty at the time claimed Adam's would go down as one of the best ever, the voting wasn't quite as one-sided.
Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud had earlier scored brilliant efforts on Saturday as Arsenal smashed Liverpool at the Emirates, as had Wayne Rooney for Manchester United and Bobby Zamora during Queens Park Rangers' shock win at West Brom.
Then on Sunday, Jermain Defoe scored a brilliant left-footed half-volley to breath life into Sunderland's relegation battle against bitter rivals Newcastle.
The Stoke midfielder eventually came out on top, gathering 33 per cent (553) of the 1,678 votes cast.
Defoe's rocket was a worthy second, with 19 per cent (316 votes) - a goal that would've been goal of the weekend on plenty of occasions this season.
Sanchez's pile-driver received just three more votes than Rooney's half-volley to come in third, while Zamora's lob with the outside of the foot seems underrated.
The QPR man got just 174 (10 per cent) of your votes, ahead of Giroud in last; he had just 90 (five per cent).
