Maurizio Sarri: Callum Hudson-Odoi is Chelsea and England's future

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Both teams will feel they should be doing better this season. Everton have slumped to the bottom half of the table and Marco Silva is under immense pressure as a result.

Jordan Pickford has a shocker at Newcastle United last week as Newcastle turned the game on its head to win. The hosts will need Richarlison to continue providing fire-power if they are to threaten Chelsea on Sunday.

After a difficult start to 2019 Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea have stabilised in recent weeks.

They breezed into the Europa League quarter finals with an 8-0 aggregate win over Dynamo Kiev, and in the league they can go level on points with fourth placed Arsenal with a win on Sunday.

They have multiple routes into next season’s Champions League, but they will want to make sure they are competing on both fronts to increase their chances of qualifying.

When does it start?

Everton vs Chelsea kicks at 16:30 on Sunday 17th March.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be televised on Sky Sports Premier League.

Who's playing?

Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Mina, Digne, Andre Gomes, Gueye, Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Bernard, Calvert-Lewin.

Subs: Baines, Walcott, Tosun, Schneiderlin, Stekelenburg, Davies, Lookman.

Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Barkley, Pedro, Higuain, Hazard.

Subs: Loftus-Cheek, Caballero, Kovacic, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi, Willian, Christensen.

Player to watch

Callum Hudson-Odoi has seized every opportunity afforded to him this season.

You could hardly blame him for wanting to leave in January, but he has stayed and proved very useful for Sarri despite being just 18 years of age. He scored a goal and gave an assist on Thursday night’s thrashing of Dynamo Kiev. Wil Sarri finally trust him in the Premier League?

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

Close! Salah picks up the ball on the edge of the box and plays in Lallana. He picks out Wijnaldum, who drives a cross-shot across the face of goal. Firmino reacts quickest, flicking the ball towards the bottom corner, but Anguissa makes a crucial block.

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold plays another inch-perfect ball to the back post, where Mane is lurking. He feeds Robertson but the full back's cross is blocked and Fulham survive another attack. A second goal, though, seems inevitable.

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

52 minutes

It should be 2-0. Robertson lifts a cross to the back post and Wijnaldum is there to win his header. From a few yards out, he can only guide his effort over the bar. The Dutchman might have left it for Salah, who has a look of exasperation on his face. He wants a goal.

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold continues to cause problems with his delivery into the box. He whips a corner which flashes across goal and evades everyone.

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

56 minutes

It's a wave of constant Liverpool attacks at the moment. Robertson puts the ball into the box this time, searching for an unmarked Firmino. The ball is diverted away from the Brazilian, but Liverpool very nearly have a second from the resulting corner as Van Dijk wins a header and draws a save from Rico.

Fulham, who have hardly touched the ball since half time, break forward and Ayite wins a corner...

They take it short and attempt to work the ball into the box. But Liverpool clear and counter at pace. Salah drives towards the box but, again, loses possession. It's been more frustration for the Egyptian today.

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

64 minutes

Fulham think they've scored... but the flag is up. A quick and incisive counter attack ends with a shot from Anguissa. It deflects into the path of Ayite, who heads into the top corner. But he was in an offside position and the goal doesn't count. A warning for Liverpool, who have started to get a bit sloppy.
