From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Everton will hope to put their poor September form behind them and get back to winning ways when they host Burnley at Goodison Park, with manager Ronald Koeman under pressure to turn around fortunes at the Toffees.
A promising summer in the transfer window has delivered little, and run of two wins in nine games – which came against Sunderland in the EFL Cup after extra-time and last weekend’s 2-1 league win over Bournemouth – has seen the Merseyside team fall well short of expectations.
Burnley meanwhile have made a flying start to the season and could consolidate their place in the top half of the table with a victory this afternoon.

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League from 13:30 and Sky Sports Main Event from 14:15. Highlights will be shown on BBC One from 22:30.
78 mins: Another corner shout - this time from Davies - goes unrewarded and time is beginning to slip away from Everton here.
81 mins: Everton make their final change as Sandro Ramirez comes on for NIasse, and Koeman will hope that his summer signing can make the impact that he is yet to have in the hope of salvaging something from the match.
84 mins: Everton go up in unison for a handball as Rooney's header deflects into Lowton's raised hand, but the verdict is a corner and it's cleared once before Davies has a curling effort headed clear.
90 mins: Four minutes of injury time, and a resigned Koeman looks to know what's coming unless Everton can find an equaliser. It's looked unlikely though.
93 mins: Everton appeal for another penalty and again it's Lowton's hand that's the subject of their hopes, but replays show the ball clearly hit his chest and the danger passes. That should be it...
