From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Southampton are the visitors to Goodison Park as new Everton manager Marco Silva takes charge of his first home league game.

The hosts were dug out of a hole last weekend by new signing Richarlison, who scored a goal in each half at Molineux against Wolves to ensure the new era under the Portuguese did not begin on a losing note.

Silva’s team were rocked twenty minutes after the Brazilian’s opener after Phil Jagielka was sent off in the first half. A similar result was in store for Southampton the following day, when they were held to a goalless draw by Burnley at St Mary’s.

Keeper Alex McCarthy and new loan signing Danny Ings were particularly impressive for Mark Hughes’s side.

Everton vs Southampton kicks off at 3PM (BST)

Where can I watch it?

The match will not be shown live on TV or online in the UK.

Independent Sport will keep you up-to-date with all the goals as they fly in via our live blog.

Highlights will be available at 10:30PM on BBC One.

It’s a big game for…

Theo Walcott: The 29-year-old may have kept true to his defensive duties against Wolves, but Marco Silva will be hoping that the former Arsenal forward can lend a helping hand to Richarlison going the other way when he faces the club where it all began for him 13 years ago. The England international managed just three goals from 14 appearances last campaign, another area in which he will need to chip in in order to help out the Brazilian forward if Everton are to have a successful season.

Stat…

Thirteen: Everton are unbeaten in their last 13 home league games against Southampton, a run which includes nine victories, since their 0-2 defeat to the Saints in November 1997.

Remember when…

The 1-0 scoreline in the fixture between these two sides in April 2015 may not have caught the eye, but Tim Howard certainly provided an eye-catching save for the Goodison faithful. Italy striker Graziano Pelle stuck out a leg to meet Shane Long’s cross, and the ball looked to be looping over the American goalkeeper before he clawed the ball away in the nick of time. The save, along with Phil Jagielka’s goal, ended up helping out Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who would have been replaced by the Saints in fifth place had they left Goodison victorious.

Player to watch…

Richarlison: The Brazilian could not have made a better start to life at Everton with two goals that dragged his side through to a draw. His first goal may have been on the scrappy side, but his second demonstrated the qualities that persuaded his new club to pay Watford an initial £35m for his services, gliding in between the Wolves defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. If he shows the work rate that he did against Wolves as well, Everton may have an answer up front.

Past three-meetings…

Everton 1 (Davies) Southampton 1 (Redmond), Premier League, May 2018

Southampton 4 (Tadic, Austin x2, Davis) Everton 1 (Sigurdsson), Premier League, November 2017

Everton 3 (Valencia, Baines, Lukaku) Southampton 0, Premier League, January 2017

Odds…

Everton to win: 22/25

Southampton to win: 7/2

Draw: 49/20

Tottenham 0-0 Fulham

6: It should really be 1-0 to Tottenham. Lucas Moura heads Davies' cross wide from very close range. The ball was fired at him and he had an open net to nod into but headed wide.

Harry Kane then puts the ball in the back of the net but it is ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper. Moura challenged with Fabri for the ball and left a boot in which caught the keeper's head.

Fulham are looking alarmingly open at the back.

Everton 1-0 Southampton

15: Theo Walcott scored with a delightful chip after a well worked free kick to give Everton the lead.

Siggurdsson touches a free kick to Baines who moves the ball on. Schneiderlin flicks it onto Walcott, who finishes it off.

Tottenham 0-0 Fulham

15: Spurs break forward with Eriksen and Kane against two defenders. The Dane switches play to Kane who takes the ball into the box, then goes to ground under Fosu-Mensah's challenge, but nothing is given.

Leicester 0-0 Wolves

21: Wolves hit the post again! Jimenez strikes from 18 yards and hits the frame with a well hit effort. The ball rebounds off the post and hits Schmeichel and goes out for a corner.

Jack Watson18 August 2018 15:24

Everton 1-0 Southampton

25: Almost an embarrassing moment for Pickford. The England international fumbles Soares' shot but makes up for his mistake by saving well from Ings.

Jack Watson18 August 2018 15:26

West Ham 0-0 Bournemouth

25: Great save from Fabianski! This is well worth another look. Brooks moves the ball onto Wilson who tries to round the West Ham goalkeeper but is denied.

Shortly before, Arnautovic and Hernandez combine on the edge of the box and the Mexican has an effort well saved.

Jack Watson18 August 2018 15:28

Leicester 1-0 Wovles

28: An own goal breaks the deadlock at the King Power stadium. Against the run of play, Albrighton breaks forward and a cross comes off Coady and hits Doherty on it's way into the Wolves net.

Jack Watson18 August 2018 15:31

Everton 2-0 Southampton

31: Everton double their lead through Richarlison. Everton take their time in possession and Walcott finds the Brazilian winger in the box, he takes his time and finishes well.

Jack Watson18 August 2018 15:32

West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth

32: Arnautovic scores from the spot!

Ake catches Hernandez in the box and the referee, Stuard Attwell, consults the linesman and points to the spot.

Arnautovic fires a low shot from the spot to the right of Begovic and West Ham take the lead.

Jack Watson18 August 2018 15:33

Tottenham 0-0 Fulham

34: Better from Fulham who are beginning to get back into the game. Cairney had a good shot well saved by Lloris, but it is the Fulham goalkeeper who is now called into action.

Eriksen tries to catch Fabri out with a near post strike but the goalkeeper deals with the danger.
