Glen Johnson has hit out at fans who criticised Liverpool in the wake of the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace that looks to have cost the Reds any chance of a tilt at the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

With Liverpool three goals to the good on Monday night, Palace rallied to level the scores and leave the Reds crestfallen. Johnson has been part of a defence this season that has been criticised for leaking too many goals, with the teams scoring capabilities getting them out of trouble when they have a tendency to concede at the other end.

This is reflected in the fact that Brendan Rodgers’ side have conceded 49 goals this term – 12 more than main rivals Manchester City – which is more than teams such as Manchester United, Hull and Monday’s opponents Palace.

Glen Johnson slams 'clueless sofa experts'

Butt Johnson took to his Twitter account to blast those aiming their thoughts towards the Merseyside club, writing that they had “no idea about football” and calling them out as “sofa experts”.

“Absolutely clueless…..” the first post read, before Johnson tweeted again saying: “So many sofa experts in this game.... Absolutely no idea about football what so ever! #Jokers”

Johnson was part of a back-four that was left stunned when they conceded three times in 12 minutes to allow Palace back into the tie, and former Reds defender-turned TV pundit Jamie Carragher blasted centre-back pairing Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho for their part in allowing Damien Delaney and Dwight Gayle to level the scores.

Rodgers concedes the title

“Defensively they're not up to being Premier League champions,” he said on Sky Sports after the final whistle.

“Sakho makes you nervous. They always concede together. It's not good enough.

“That final 20 minutes was unacceptable. They concede too many goals.

“The back four and defensive side of this team have shown they can't cope with pressure. They're not leaders."

He continued: “You can't keep inviting pressure. They got out of jail at Norwich the other week and haven't learned their lesson; It's gone on and on over the past few months.

“Well tonight they haven't and have thrown away the Premier League title.”
