From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Chelsea, the Premier League's leaders and title favourites, will look to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with victory over a resurgent Hull City. Marco Silva has restored faith in Humberside, but they will need much more than that to take something against Antonio Conte's relentless juggernaut.

Hazard spreads the ball wide to Alonso, but he fails to find Costa inside of the box who had his hands in the air, yelling for a delivery. The home side look lethal down the left-hand side.

40 MINS

Chelsea persistently test the strengths of the Hull defence, but their efforts remain unrewarded. However, we have to remember that there will a substantial amount of additional time added onto this half following the Mason injury.

Hull appear to have had an injection of energy from somewhere, with Maguire forcing an impressive save from Courtois, His confidence on the ball is faultless, but it will take something more special than that to beat the Belgian keeper.

Pedro goes to ground right on the edge of the box following a reckless challenge from Davies.

The Spaniard stands over the set piece himself, but he crosses the ball into the box only to be met by the head of Meyler. A player of such ability should have gone for goal from there.

51 MINS

Pedro finds Alonso down the left-hand side, but his delivery into the box is just too quick to find Konte. The slightest touch on that and it would have been 1-0.

GOAL

CHELSEA 1 - 0 HULL

Who else but Costa?

Moses does well down the right and sends the ball low and hard into the box. It finds it way to Chelsea's top scorer and he calmly slots it past a helpless Jakupovic. What a time to get it.

HALF TIME

Hull enter the interval chasing a one goal deficit, following a goal from Costa in the 52nd minute. Chelsea were dominant throughout, but Silva's men have defended persistently and have shown glimpses of brilliance going forward. They are not out of it just yet, that's for sure.
