Follow live coverage as Nottingham Forest face Newcastle United today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Guimaraes! After Sels palms a left-sided cross out, the Brazilian goes for an audacious effort with the outside of his right foot as he looks for the top-left corner after dancing centrally. It's just over!

While Yates is lucky, on further review, to not be booked for his elbow on the defender. With another risque challenge on Longstaff in the centre, he was lucky the Magpie didn't go down easy, otherwise he could've been in trouble. If anything, these small moments have added to a wider intense atmosphere on the bank of the Trent. Newcastle put in 19 crosses to Nottingham Forest's seven in the opening half but only one of the Magpies' was successful. Murillo recorded seven clearances in the first 45 minutes, the most of any Nottingham Forest player and six more than any Newcastle player. Forest have exceeded their 0.33 xG with Murillo's well-taken header, while Newcastle have underperformed their 0.42 xG. This is the fourth time in six Premier League away matches this season that Newcastle have trailed at half-time, however, they can still stay confident in their abilities, as they have only lost one of the previous three (W1 D1).

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United

Nottingham Forest lead Newcastle 1-0 at the City Ground as we enter the interval. In a relatively even, fast-paced encounter, Murillo's powerfully-taken header is the difference maker. The game's tempo was set almost immediately. Yates managed to evade punishment with an accidental elbow to Livramento's face before Burn was booked for a cynical foul on Gibbs-White in the seventh minute. Willock consistently looked like a promising outlet for Newcastle on the left, yet when he was forced to defend in the 20th minute, he gave away the game's so-far influential free-kick as Elanga was tripped on the right byline. The Swede got up and crossed excellently and his ball was met brilliantly by Murillo to head down past Pope for his first Forest goal in 47 club appearances. There have been a handful of half-bothered penalty shouts, yet with two physical defences playing a big part in this end-to-end match, referee Taylor has remained unmoved.
