Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Here is Ashley Cole out with some friends including John Terry and One Direction crooner Niall Horan seeing the funny side by recreating his memorable awkward pose.
Just like the infamous picture with his new Roma team-mates which was taken soon after he joined the Italian side from Chelsea, the self-deprecating Cole has again decided to stay on the periphery of the shot away from everyone else.
Terry, who played alongside Cole in the Chelsea defence for eight trophy-laden years, posted the image to his Instagram page last night, with the caption "#thelurker".
Cole himself tweeted out the image as well, with the caption "doing what I do". It was the latest in many tweets about the original picture Cole had sent after it went viral, including tweeting a meme of him "lurking" through ex-wife Cheryl Cole's window while she posed with new husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.
The original Cole team photograph:
The photo was taken in London on a night out to celebrate Horan's upcoming 21st birthday. The Irish singer got to know the Chelsea players last season, as he underwent physiotherapy sessions with the club's medical experts to help his knee injury.
