Ashley Cole became one of very few British players to move abroad when earlier this summer he left Chelsea to join Italian side Roma.
Previous expats have not always excelled on foreign soil, with Liverpool great Ian Rush famously claiming it was "like being in a foreign country" when he moved to Juventus.
So concerns regarding how Cole would fit in at his new club were made all the more stark following the emergence of pictures of the team on their pre-season tour.
The former England international, who was controversially left out of Roy Hodgson's World Cup plans, can be seen standing separately as the squad gather for a team photo opportunity, awkwardly leaning in towards his new team-mates.
The image has quickly spread on social media, with the former Arsenal player being likened to the "new kid" at school whilst a flurry of Memes have quickly been created.
The picture was taken during Roma's tour of the United States where at the weekend they lost 3-2 to Manchester United. They are due to play Real Madrid and Inter Milan before returning to Italy for the new Serie A season.
