Newcastle United’s new era of expected riches and Saudi-fuelled optimism starts on Sunday afternoon as they host Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park.

The P.I.F. consortium finally purchased the club from previous owner Mike Ashley during the international break, leading to delirious scenes outside St. James’ Park and human rights groups including Amnesty International raising concerns about links to the Saudi Arabian government. Steve Bruce remains in the dugout, for now, and will take charge of his 1000th match as a manager, as his side faces a Spurs team which defeated Aston Villa last time out to end a run of three consecutive losses.

Newcastle remain without a win in the Premier League this season and Bruce will desperate to make a positive first impression with his new employers, who have been linked with a glut of managers around Europe as potential replacements for the 61-year-old. The Magpies are currently 18th in the table, ahead only of the equally winless Burnley and Norwich City, while Spurs sit ninth, having scored only six goals in their opening seven matches.

David Ginola: We should all be able to perform CPR to help each other

David Ginola urged everybody to get CPR training after a fan collapsed in Newcastle’s Premier League match against Tottenham.

The game as St James’ Park was suspended for 20 minutes towards the end of the first half as the spectator received medical attention.

It was later confirmed by Newcastle that the person was stabilised and sent to hospital.

Reaction from Reguilon

Sergio Reguilon spoke to the media after the game and explained what happened during the medical emergency. Reguilon himself saw the incident and quickly alerted the referee whilst his teammate Eric Dier rushed over to get the defibrillator. Their quick actions helped to save that person’s life.

Reguilon told BBC Sport:

I think three points is always a moment of happiness but for me more important is the guy (the supporter who received medical treatment), they are telling me he is OK and stable.

“I saw the fans waving and I saw a guy lying down, I saw something wrong had happened. I looked at the gaffer and he stopped the match. I think now everything is OK and 100% happiness.

“It was very strange, we went to the dressing room and I was looking at the man lying down, I was nervous because I don’t like to watch that.”

Tottenham wreck Newcastle’s takeover party after Harry Kane inspires comeback win

A game of many moods, and a day of many forms.

It was certainly one of the strangest in Premier League history, even if it will end up serving as a landmark in the competition’s history given the takeover.

What had been a grand welcoming for Newcastle United’s owners and consequently a grand exhibition of how sportswashing works became a very serious health emergency, a huge show of relief, a game that ebbed in all manner of directions and - ultimately - a 3-2 defeat for Newcastle United against Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham put in a performance

Arguably Tottenham put in their best performance of the season. They responded brilliantly from conceding the early goal. Tanguy Ndombele was a clash above for most of the match.

Spurs looked composed and comfortable of the ball. The old partnership between Kane and Son clicked back into gear and combined for two goals as well.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be pleased but there’s room to improve. Spurs seemed to slack off towards the end of the game and Eric Dier gave away an unfortunate own goal.

Newcastle struggle again

Despite the pre-match euphoria over the new owners Newcastle are still without a win in the league this season. They have 11 games now before the January transfer window opens and could be firmly embedded in the relegation zone by that time.

Things may get worse before they get better.

Full-time: Newcastle 2 - 3 Tottenham

90+4 mins: There’s the final whistle. It’s all over at St. James’ Park. They party that the Newcastle fans wanted to celebrate their new owners is spoiled by Tottenham.

Steve Bruce’s 1000th game as a manager ends in defeat. Tanguy Ndombele was brilliant for Tottenham and Harry Kane scored his first goal of the season.

Spurs pick up three points and move up to fifth.

Newcastle 2 - 3 Tottenham

90 mins: Four minutes of added time to play. Hojbjerg stays down after a collison to take a few second out of the game. Nuno Espirito Santo looks pensive on the sidelines. He could do with a win for Spurs here.

GOAL! Newcastle 2 - 3 Tottenham (Dier OG, 89’)⚽️

89 mins: Big moment! A Newcastle free kick over on the right wing is whipped into the box. Tottenham start out with a high line and backtrack as the ball comes into the box. It drops over the head of Romero and hits Dier. He can’t avoid the ball and it careens off him, beats Lloris and finishes in the back of the net! Can Newcastle find one more?
