Newcastle United battled to an entertaining 3-3 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday night, to leave the league leaders seven points clear.

Eddie Howe’s men started brightly in the first half and found themselves ahead after Alexander Isak lashed in a fantastic effort from outside the box. But the lead didn’t last long after the break, with Mo Salah providing a lovely assist for Curtis Jones to level it.

It was Newcastle who re-took the lead after Isak combined with Anthony Gordon before the England winger squeezed a finish past Caoimhin Kelleher, but the introduction of Trent Alexander-Arnold changed the game as he set up Salah’s equaliser for 2-2.

The league leaders were in the ascendancy from there, and they looked like they had won it when Salah found the bottom corner with a shot on the turn, only for Kelleher to make a mistake to allow Fabian Schar to slide in and have the last say.

FULL-TIME! Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool

Newcaslte think they have a counter opportunity but the referee blows the final whistle! There might be some irritation about the timing of that (probably from those connected to Arsenal).

What a game that was – the points are shared on Tyneside.

Newcastle break away and Wilson is fouled a few yards from the edge of the box. Isak, Hall and Schar are lining it up...

The striker hits it, but it’s quite far over.

There’ll be five minutes of added time here.

Liverpool want a penalty after Mac Allister’s shot cannons off Dan Burn’s arm, but he had it right by his side. No chance.

Pope collects from the corner.

GOAL! There’s another twist in the tale!

It’s sloppy from Liverpool, as Guimaraes swings in a deep free-kick to the back post. Kelleher has come for it but decides to leave it, but Schar has crept in at the back post and manages to slide in and direct it into the back of the net!

GOAL! Who else!? He’s been threatening, and has Salah got the winner?

The visitors work it well on the edge of the box and Szoboszlai dummies to allow the pass to come to Alexander-Arnold on the right-hand edge of the box. He looks up and squares it to Salah, who takes a touch into the space behind him and hits a low shot on the swivel that settles in the bottom corner!
