This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Trippier and Ramsey clash in midfield after the Burnley man brought down the right-back. The referee manages to quickly calm things down, though.

CLOSE! Beyer's header to clear a cross only finds Trippier near the edge of the box. The full-back brings it down before rifling towards goal, and his shot takes a wicked deflection off Taylor. Burnley's hearts are in mouths as the ball goes goalwards, though fortunately for them, the nick only sends the ball just wide of the post.

Newcastle have been much the better team, but their advantage is only a single goal and Kompany will know his side still have a chance. Howe will be looking for what could be a decisive second goal and has a very strong bench to call upon if he needs, with the likes of Tonali and Joelinto among the substitutes.

The teams head back to the changing rooms with the hosts 1-0 up at St James' Park thanks to Almiron's opening goal. Burnley could have been ahead just four minutes in after Burn's slip let Koleosho in to square for Amdouni, though Pope made a great stop to deny the forward's low shot. The Clarets were made to pay for that miss with 14 minutes gone, Trippier dispossessing Ramsey before Almiron took full advantage by sending a delightful curling finish into the back of the net. Isak could and probably should have made it 2-0 when he shot wide, while Trafford made a sublime stop to somehow stop Anderson's diving header flying in to ensure his side went into the break just the one goal down.

Trafford gives the ball away in a terrible area but makes up for his mistake by getting down low to save Anderson's curling effort after a neat one-two with Almiron made the space.
