Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.
Jurgen Klopp's Reds were on course for a quadruple last season but were forced to settle for just an FA Cup and Carabao Cup win and will return trying to win the title again just as they did in 2020.
It was a dramatic season for Chelsea a year ago with Roman Abramovich now replaced by Todd Boehly as owner in west London. He will want an instant return on his hefty investment at Stamford Bridge while Tottenham, back in the Champions League, will want to kick on once more too.
It's not all about the action at the top though with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promoted to the top tier for 2021/22 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

Sitting third in the Premier League before today's games - three places above their hosts - Tottenham were 2-0 winners over Everton on Saturday, which moved them level with Manchester City in the table. The gap to leaders and arch-rivals Arsenal remains at four points, though. Spurs have put together a three-game winning run, but have tended to fare far worse on the road than at home: Antonio Conte's men have won only two of seven away matches so far this season and have found the net just three times in their last five.

After being held to a goalless draw by Newcastle United at the weekend, Manchester United's three-match winning run has been halted - though two of those victories came in the Europa League. Erik ten Hag's side also saw an eight-game Premier League scoring streak at Old Trafford brought to its conclusion, but they get an immediate opportunity to fare better on home soil today. For all their travails in recent times, the Red Devils have lost just two of their last 17 top-flight fixtures in front of their own fans.
