33 mins: Lovely! The ball is looped over to Garnacho on the left wing and gets past Williams who slips trying to tackle the winger.

Garnacho weaves away from Remo Freuler and fizzes the ball into the six-yard area but Wayne Hennessey smothers it before Wout Weghorst can get there.

30 mins: Save! Luke Shaw takes the free kick and curls the set piece over to the far side of the box. The ball drops onto the head of Casemiro who heads it back across goal and almost gets it in.

Wayne Hennessey drops to the floor and manages to poke the ball away with his outstretched right leg! Fine save from the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper.

27 mins: There’s a big appeal for handball against Neco Williams as he tries to defend a Man Utd throw in. The referee waves for play to go on and Garnacho gets brought down by Scarpa.

United win a free kick in a dangerous area. It’s shooting range.

24 mins: Varane switches the play with a pacey crossfield pass over to Garnacho on the left wing. The youngster drives at Williams and wins a corner when his cross is deflected out of play.

With Christian Eriksen out injured Bruno Fernandes is on set piece duty and swings the ball over to Emmanuel Dennis who pokes it behind for a second corner.

21 mins: Forest will be pleased. They’ve made it through the first 20 minutes without conceding and have strung together a couple of decent attacks.

The first goal has to go to them, if United score then the tie is all but over.

18 mins: Alejandro Garnacho takes on Willy Boly again but this time Neco Williams is available to help out the centre-back. Garnacho feels a flick and goes to ground looking for a penalty but the referee is unmoved.

Antony then curls one in but it’s a comfortable height for goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

15 mins: Close! Forest take a short free kick and give the ball to Scarpa on the left wing. He delivers a lovely cross into the middle and tries to find Surridge.

Varane leaps in front of the forward and nods the ball away. Manchester United are under a bit of early pressure here. It’s bee a nice start from Forest.

12 mins: Manchester United look to get forward on the counter with Alejandro Garnacho driving the ball up the pitch. He gets all the way to the front edge of the area but Willy Boly is there to dispossess the youngster and recover the ball for Forest.

9 mins: Nottingham Forest struggled to win the ball in the first few minutes of this match but a counter-attack from Emmanuel Dennis gets them up the pitch.

They work it nicely around the edge of the penalty area and get United scrambling to defend. Sam Surridge is forced wide but the visitors maintain possession.

It’s played back into the box but Varane is there to clear.
