Manchester United dented bitter rivals Liverpool’s title hopes as Mohamed Salah’s late spot-kick salvaged a 2-2 draw in Jurgen Klopp’s final trip to Old Trafford. Three weeks on from Erik ten Hag’s men edging an FA Cup classic at the end of extra-time, this age-old rivalry resumed in a similarly chaotic clash in the Premier League on Sunday.
Luis Diaz put dominant Liverpool into a deserved half-time lead against stumbling United, only for Bruno Fernandes’s 45-yard jaw-dropper and a magnificent Kobbie Mainoo effort to turn the match on its head.
Salah levelled with a late penalty after Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought down Harvey Elliott, but the Reds could not eke out a winner as Ten Hag’s men successfully put a spanner in their old foes’ title charge.
Relive all the match action below.
Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
72 mins: Fernandes delivers an enticing corner but it’s cleared away for a goal-kick. This game has got increasingly scrappy but the hosts won’t mind that one bit.
Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

GOAL! Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool (Mainoo, 67 mins)
United hit the front!
Well, well, well - who saw this coming? A superb finish from Mainoo, swivelling onto his right before curling a remarkable strike past Kelleher and into the far corner.
Having been under the cosh for the majority of this game, Ten Hag’s side are somehow ahead as we enter the final 25 minutes.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
66 mins: Rashford signals to the bench that he needs to come off, presumably he’s picked up a slight niggle. Antony replaces him, while Liverpool bring on Gomez and Jones for Bradley and Szoboszlai.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
63 mins: Fernandes pops up in the box this time but can’t quite get the same purchase on the finish this time as he fails to make contact with the ball.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
59 mins: Proper end-to-end stuff, this, now as Rashford floats a teasing ball in from the left which, somehow, flies all the way through to Kelleher.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
58 mins: Salah jinks through the penalty area but can’t quite find space for the shot. In the end, it’s laid back to Mac Allister but his effort on the edge of the box is blocked again by the United defence.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
55 mins: CHANCE! A swift counterattack from Liverpool but they can’t quite get it right. Diaz squares it across to Nunez at the back post but the striker can’t quite place his effort on target from a tight angle.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
54 mins: That goal has finally sparked a bit of impetus from United as Garnacho’s deflected strike goes behind for a corner. Fernandes swings in a corner but Maguire can’t quite direct his header on target.
GOAL! Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool (Fernandes, 50 mins)
Wow! A moment of magic from Fernandes to equalise for United.
It’s a sloppy mistake from Quansah to give away the ball but a world-class instinctive finish from Fernandes who catches Kelleher off his line with a remarkable first-time effort from distance.
That’s United’s first shot of the game and what an effort it was.
