From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Interim Manchester United manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was denied a second win in as many games as a Moises Caicedo stunner earned Chelsea a point at Old Trafford.

After a thumping midweek cup win, Bruno Fernandes had set the hosts on course for Premier League victory from the penalty spot after Robert Sanchez felled Rasmus Hojlund in the box. But minutes later, Caicedo met a dropping ball sweetly on the volley to beat Andre Onana and square affairs, with neither side able to add to their tally in a 1-1 draw.

An at-times drab game will have encouraged incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim to some degree, with interim boss Van Nistelrooy able to instil some defensive solidity against a threatening Chelsea attacking unit. Amorim will take charge at Old Trafford after the mid-November international break having been confirmed as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor this week.

PENALTY to United!

The long ball comes in and Fofana misjudges it. Hojlund latches onto it and takes a touch to take it past Sanchez, and the Spaniard brings him down for the penalty!

There’s a brief VAR check but it’s given.

Rashford is booked for dissent after he had too many words for the referee having brought down Neto. Silly from the England man.

United finally launch a decent counter as Fernandes wins the ball near halfway. He drives into the box and is patient enough to pick out Garnacho with the cutback, but the Argentinian fluffs his lines and scuffs an effort right at Sanchez.

Fofana brings down Hojlund as United counter, but the Danish striker was offside anyway.

James goes long this time, but Martinez hooks it away before Fofana wins a free-kick. Palmer moves it on to Cucurella, whose shot is deflected and then cleared. Moments later, Neto hits a tame shot too close to Onana.

The corner is an inviting delivery but it’s headed away close to the United goal line. The home side think they have a good counter-attack chance, but Garnacho is flagged offside.

Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea

Richard Jolly at Old Trafford:

“Not the most dramatic start to the second half. Enzo Maresca’s decision to bring Marc Cucurella on and shift Reece James to right-back may have helped Chelsea tighten up at the back. A glimpse at the two benches shows they have more game-changing options, too.”

It was United’s second shot on target, actually. And just the third of the game, with the away side having one too. That paints the picture of the game so far, if you need it.

Mazraoui fouls Palmer midway into the United half and Chelsea might have a chance to swing a ball into the box. They do, and Madueke wins a corner.
