From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Manchester City win another trophy. It should have been inevitable given the superiority Pep Guardiola’s team have over, pretty much, every other team last season. City are treble-winners and won the elusive Champions League for the first time. They came into the Uefa Super Cup as massive favourites but needed a penalty shootout to get the job done.

Sevilla struck first. They were the better team in the opening 45 minutes as City failed to get up to the tempo of the match. Youssef En-Nesyri leapt above Nathan Ake to meet Marcos Acuna’s cross and nod the Spaniards in front. That goal saw them go into half-time with the lead but it woke City up.

Guardiola’s men then pushed on in the second half and equalised through Cole Palmer. Like En-Nesyri he slotted home a fine header and drew City level. The match went to a penalty shootout and the Champions League winners were perfect. They scored all five before Nemanja Gudelj missed his spot kick and gifted them the trophy.

Man City 1-1 Sevilla

78 mins: Cole Palmer asks for the ball on the right wing and receives it. He looks for Jack Grealish on the back post but the ball gets knocked away from him.

Save! Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic combine inside the box and see Haaland’s shot blocked. City recycle it through Kyle Walker who drills a pass across the six-yard area.

Phil Foden is waiting for a tap in but Bono sticks out a hand and flicks it past the midfilder to deny City.

Man City 1-1 Sevilla

75 mins: A reminder for those not in the know. If the match is level at 90 minutes (after stoppage time) then it will be decided by penalties with no extra-time.

That adds a bit of extra jeopardy to proceedings as City strive to score a winner. 15 minutes to play.
