This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Gvardiol drives into the penalty area and flicks the ball to his left, and Doku will look to take on his marker. He darts towards the byline and attempts to float a cross into the box, but it's deflected behind for a corner. Alvarez takes and whips it towards the front post, but Morris does superbly to head it off the line.

What a chance! Lewis picks out De Bruyne on the edge of the box and the City midfielder threads a throughball into the penalty area, and Nunes has burst forward. He wastes no time before striker across goal, but his shot glances off the post and goes behind. So close to a second for Guardiola's side!

There's a scramble inside the box after Kovacic pulls it back and Haaland goes to strike it, but his shot is blocked. It eventually comes to Nunes on the right-hand side and he whips a dangerous ball across goal, but somehow none of the City attackers get on the end of it.

Doku carries the ball towards the penalty area and he fires it into the feet of Haaland, who does well to hold off the defender. He lays it back into the path of Doku who strikes it first-time towards goal, but it's a weak effort and it goes comfortably wide of the post.

City have a free-kick and De Bruyne is standing over it, and he whips a dangerous cross towards the back post. Gvardiol arrives unmarked and heads back across goal, but Haaland can't quite get on the end of it as he falls to the ground. He wants a penalty, but the referee says no.

City go close! De Bruyne is found by Dias on the right-hand side, just a few years outside the penalty area. He floats a delivery to the back post and Haaland is there to meet it, but the Norwegian striker doesn't connect well with the shot and it flies over the bar and goes behind for a goal-kick to Luton.

It's been a dominant opening 16 minutes of the game from Man City, who have enjoyed 82.5 per cent of the possession. Guardiola's side have also created 0.86 expected goals (xG) from six shots, while touching the ball inside the opposition box 15 times. Luton have completed just 16 passes so far.

Doku receives the ball on the edge of the penalty area and he shifts it onto his right foot before getting to the byline. He pulls it back inside the box and Nunes is there to meet it, but he produces a tame effort and Kaminski is able to save comfortably. Guardiola's side are turning the screw in search of a second.

Doku is looking to cause problems on the left-hand side as he stands up Townsend. De Bruyne has made a run ahead of him and Doku slots the ball into his path, but the Belgian midfielder goes down under the challenge of Berry, but the referee has waved away his protests. He's having none of it!

Alvarez is standing over the corner and City have surrounded Kaminski in the six-yard box, throwing plenty of bodies forward for this one. The Argentine attacker takes and he floats it to the edge of the area where De Bruyne is there to meet it, but he volleys it high and wide into the stands behind the goal.
