From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Hard-charging Manchester City went four points clear of Arsenal at the top the Premier League on Saturday, beating Leeds United 2-1 with a pair of near-identical goals from Ilkay Gundogan, stretching their winning league run to 10 games.

City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland graciously handed the ball to Gundogan to take a penalty kick in the 84th minute for what would have been a hat trick, but Leeds keeper Joel Robles had no trouble turning aside his shot.

City had run circles around Leeds with numerous excellent scoring chances before Gundogan struck in the 19th minute from the edge of the 18-yard box off a pass from Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez teed up Gundogan again eight minutes later in a carbon copy of his first goal.

Rodrigo Moreno pulled one back for Leeds in the 85th minute.

With four games left, Pep Guardiola’s side have 82 points to Arsenal’s 78, and if the Gunners lose to Newcastle on Sunday City will have all but locked up an illustrious third consecutive title. Leeds, playing their first game under interim manager Sam Allardyce who was parachuted in in a last-ditch effort to avoid relegation, are teetering in 17th place - and all three teams below them have a game in hand.

Relive the action as Manchester City defeated Leeds, which is followed by Liverpool vs Brentford:

Man City 0-0 Leeds

11 mins: Leeds with their first effort of the game as Bamford meets an outswinging McKennie cross from the right. It’s a tough opportunity and he can’t direct it on target. Still, a solid start from the away side.

The players are out with kick-off closing in. A huge task awaits Leeds and Sam Allardyce with the English manager winless in his four games against Pep Guardiola.

What a time it would be to change that...

Allardyce speaks to Sky Sports

“Everyone at the club has contributed to what we feel might be the best XI to start with today. We’ve then looked at some of the previous games and decided how we are going to play against the mighty Man City because that is who they are at the minute - nine wins on the trot and going for everything like always.

“We’ve got a huge task on our hands based on our recent results but the players responded well and I’m hoping we can see some of that on the field today with some determination, understanding, organisation and team spirit and of course, in the end, a little bit of quality if and when we can in front of goal.”

Man City vs Leeds - electric Erling

Leeds will have a difficult time keeping City quiet today, though. Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in their last 19 games and knocked off another landmark with their 3-0 win against West Ham as Erling Haaland broke the record for most goals in a single campaign.

The Norwegian striker has now netted 35 times this season, moving ahead of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole and he leads the line again today with Mahrez, Alvarez, De Bruyne and Foden behind him.
