Man City host Tottenham in the late kick-off on a busy Saturday in the Premier League.

There were boos last time out for Spurs after defeat to Wolves, and Antonio Conte has been furious at the coverage and reaction to his interview with the Italian media, where he bemoaned the transfer situation after January, despite spending big to sign Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, both from Juventus.

Spurs meet a City side in fine form after their demolition of Sporting in the Champions League this week, to all but secure their place in the quarter-finals following the one-sided first leg. Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling all enter this game in fine form and pose a huge threat to Spurs as they bid to keep alive hopes of a top-four finish.

The task at hand has been simplified by City’s dominance in possession though, which could aid Conte’s ability to drill his side this week on the training ground in hope of at least a performance to promote confidence down the straight as Harry Kane considers his future this summer with just two years remaining on his contract.

Last-gasp Harry Kane header snatches Tottenham victory to stun Man City in five-goal thriller

Back on the opening weekend of the season, after a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and as the summer-long pursuit of Harry Kane appeared destined to failure, Pep Guardiola was ever so slightly worried for the campaign ahead. “I didn’t know what would happen,” he admitted in the build-up to this return fixture at the Etihad.

What happened, in fact, was that Manchester City would shake themselves down, win 20 of their 24 games and open up a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League table that convinced most of us that they had won the league by Christmas.

It was as if they did not actually need a £150m striker after all. The question is Pep, how are you feeling now?

Reaction from Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke to Sky Sports after the game and gave credit to the performances of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski. He said:

Well it was a good game. We tried through many sides, especially down the left. It is very difficult, they defend so narrow. Tottenham have a lot of quality, they give the ball to Harry Kane. They are really good up front.

“In the first half they have the goal and no more. In the second half they have one attack with Harry Kane at the start and they score. We try to score but we conceded the goal in extra-time.

“It’s difficult when they defend so deep. We had the chances to arrive and score. Unfortunately we cannot score.

“They are clinical. They have Kane and Son and Kulusevski. Their crosses we could not defend. We didn’t have the momentum.

“We didn’t need to lose a game already to know how hard it is [to win the league]. There are many, many games still to play.”

Late header from Harry Kane seals dramatic win for Tottenham at Manchester City

Harry Kane reminded Manchester City just what they missed out on as he scored two goals to earn Tottenham a dramatic 3-2 win at the Etihad Stadium.

The England captain was desperate to join the champions in the summer but City never came up with an offer that even got close to Spurs’ valuation, and how he made them pay as their 15-game unbeaten streak was ended.

After playing his part in Dejan Kulusevski’s opener, he put Spurs back in front following Ilkay Gundogan’s equaliser with a sublime finish before delivering late drama.

Harry Kane speaking to Sky Sport

Tottenham’s matchwinner, Harry Kane, gave his post-match thoughts to Sky Sports and spoke about what he called ‘a crazy game’. He said:

It was a crazy game. We worked so hard for so long. We were 2-1 ahead for such a long time in the second half. To see the penalty awarded was so heartbreaking, but credit to the boys for creating another chance at the end.

“For me it was [about ending] three losses in a row and we had to find a way of getting our season back on track. To get the result we did was really, really special. The boys worked their socks off today. To get the goals was obviously nice. We were great from Hugo [Lloris] all the way through.

“We have high standards of ourselves and we’ve got ourselves in a position where we can really fight for the top four. Football’s about bouncing back. We can’t get too high or too low. The performance today show’s we’re fighting to the end. Hopefully we can use it as momentum going forward.

“We probably have to learn how to be more consistent in a long season. To be in the top four, it has to be on a consistent basis. We’ve got Burnley in midweek – they’re fighting for their lives so we know it’ll be a tough one.”

Reaction from Son Heung-min

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min spoke to Sky Sports after the game and touched on what it means to beat Manchester City and how it feels to play with Harry Kane. He said:

We have a group of positive players and guys. Before the game we lost three in a row. We still believed and worked really hard. We worked for this game especially.

“It could be the worst time to face Manchester City for us, but this was actually the best time.

“He’s [Harry Kane] scored so many goals. I was really sad at the start of the season when he didn’t score goals but he was working hard for the team.

“He is an unbelievable player and an unbelievable guy. Working alongside him is a big honour.”

Man City 2 - 3 Spurs

That result is fantastic for Liverpool. They are now six points behind Manchester City with a game in hand and with Man City still to play. Tottenham move up to seventh in the league. They’re back in the top four race as well. Four points behind Manchester United (4th) with two games in hand on them.
