Premier League transfer round-up: Tottenham aim for double signing

Follow live updates as Liverpool FC face a trip to Burnley in the Premier League, one of three early kick-offs to be staged this afternoon. The Reds are aiming to keep pace with Manchester City after the Premier League leaders re-established their 12-point lead at the top of the table thanks to a 4-0 win over Norwich on Saturday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side are on a run of three wins in a row in the Premier League, although the Liverpool manager was dismissive of their chances of catching City in the Premier League title race following Thursday’s 2-0 win over Leicester at Anfield.

Diogo Jota continued his goalscoring form on a night which also saw Luis Diaz make his first Premier League start and Mohamed Salah return following Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations defeat to Senegal last weekend. Sadio Mane, who scored the winning penalty in Senegal’s triumph, could return today as Liverpool visit Turf Moor, where they find a Burnley side at the bottom of the table under Sean Dyche. The Clarets are unbeaten in three following the midweek draw with Manchester United, however, but are desperate for a win to boost their survival chances.

Follow live updates from Burnley vs Liverpool below, plus scores from Tottenham vs Wolves and Newcastle vs Aston Villa, in the day’s other early kick-offs:

Burnley 0 - 1 Liverpool

48 mins: Liverpool win a free kick and Alexander-Arnold floats the set piece in the box. It flies over everyone but gets recovered by Joel Matip. Matip knocks the ball back to Robertson but he’s put under pressure on the left side and the ball rolls out for a Burnley throw in.

Second half: Burnley 0 - 1 Liverpool

Kick off: Burnley restart the game at Turf Moor. They showed enough in the first 45 minutes that they can break through Liverpool but their finishing needs to improve. No changes from either team at half-time.

Elsewhere in the Premier League

Kieran Trippier has given Newcastle a 1-0 lead over Aston Villa at St. James’ Park. It’s a deserved lead for the home side who have created the better chances in the game. More work to be done for Steven Gerrard’s Villa.

At the Tottenham Hotspur stadium Wolves are leading by two goals to nil at half-time. Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker have both found the back of the net and as things stand Bruno Lage’s men will jump above Spurs into seventh place.

Burnley 0 - 1 Liverpool

43 mins: That’s a tough blow for Burnley who have been impressive throughout this half but Liverpool are too good to keep out for long. They win another corner that bounces to Mo Salah but he can’t turn the ball towards goal and somehow Burnley scrmable it clear.

GOAL! Burnley 0 - 1 Liverpool (Fabinho, 40’)⚽️

40 mins: Liverpool take the lead at Turf Moor! Trent Alexander-Arnold swings a corner into the middle of the box and picks out Sadio Mane. Burnley 0 - 0 Liverpool

36 mins: Liverpool are trying to wrestle a bit of control back from Burnley but they aren’t going very far. It’s a good ball over to Alexander-Arnold from Van Dijk before Liverpool switch the play with a pass up to Roberto Firmino on the left.
