Liverpool take on Bournemouth hoping to build some momentum in the Premier League following a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest in their previous league game.

During the week Arne Slot took charge of this first European match as Liverpool manager and defeated AC Milan at the San Siro in a confidence-building comeback victory. The Reds will now be hoping to take that form into today’s encounter with the Cherries and move themselves up the Premier League table.

For their part, Bournemouth have been playing well. Five points from their opening four games puts them 11th in the table, just behind Manchester United. Although they lost 1-0 to Chelsea in their last match they performed strongly and Andoni Iraola will be hoping for something similar at Anfield.

Gravenberch hits a speculative strike from 30 yards out, looking to test the goalkeeper, but Kepa is equal to it, palming the ball down with two hands to take the sting out before making the grab at the second attempt.

Araujo’s low cross to the near post is left by Evanilson for Tavanier, who is unable to redirect the ball towards goal. It eventually skips out to Semenyo 20 yards from goal, but his skipping, half-volley is driven off the back of Gravenberch and behind for a corner.

A collision inside the penalty area leaves both Nunez and Kepa on the ground, with the two players looking to win the race to a loose ball. The goalkeeper manages to get there first before taking a bit of an uncoordinated barge of the shoulder - giving Bournemouth a free-kick.

Alexander-Arnold chooses to pass a free-kick to the right for Salah instead of relying on his trademark delivery, which puts Gravenberch in a position to deliver a cross from a different angle. The Netherlands international manages to pick Nunez out at the far post but it’s a poor pass across the face of goal for Mac Allister, with Zabarnyi able to clear it away.

Iraiola will first and foremost need to make sure this does not get any worse for his side, down three goals and with three players already on a booking. Senesi could provide a bit of experience at the back in place of the carded Huijsen, while the creativity and skill of Brooks and Scott could be useful in helping Evanilson grow into the game. Slot will be looking for a routine second-half performance, but he could also take the opportunity to give some of his less frequently used players a chance; including Quansah at the back and Chiesa on the wing.

Liverpool ran absolutely rampant in the first half, heeding the early warning signs after Bournemouth’s disallowed goal four minutes in, before finding the back of the net three times within an 11-minute spell to take a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead into the half-time interval. Semenyo looked to get the Cherries off on the right foot, but a tight offside decision would leave the match level and spoil Iraiola’s early smile. Slot’s team hit back almost immediately, with Salah and Diaz forcing Kepa into a pair of fantastic saves to keep the score level, before the aforementioned Diaz found his rhythm- scoring a pair of lovely goals in 120 seconds to completely change the game. Nunez would add a third less than 10 minutes from the interval - leaving Iraiola’s side somewhat stunned. Despite an xG of just 1.01, Liverpool hit the back of the net three times, while Bournemouth are still searching for their first - with an output of 0.7 xG.
