From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The USA have won the 2019 Women's World Cup after a battling victory over the Netherlands in Lyon.

Second half goals from Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle were enough to see the 2015 winners through to a win which sees them successfully defend the crown won in Canada four years ago.

The 2-0 win sees them lift the World Cup for a second time in a row and a fourth time in their history.

Becky Sauerbrunn takes a bang and will need a little treatment, but a nod of the head to the medic and a half-limped run indicate she'll be alright to continue.

Half-an-hour through the World Cup final and it remains goalless in Lyon.

Megan Rapinoe stabs a foot at a cross and earns the USA another corner, which she will trot across to and take.

Fired in low to the near post, Lineth Beerensteyn performs her duties diligently, controlling and volleying away.

You sense the USA might get joy from one of these crosses. Alex Morgan wins the latest from the left, but can't contort her head sufficiently to direct a ball arcing away from her towards goal.

Lucky!

The Netherlands twice threaten to give the ball away as they try to play out from the back, and eventually do, but Megan Rapinoe is standing two yards offside as she looks to latch on to Sam Mewis' forward poke.

Down goes Alex Morgan, and out come the boos.

It isn't a dive per se, but it certainly isn't a foul, and the neutrals and the Dutch fans aren't happy at all.

It came from a lovely pass from Crystal Dunn over the top, and Morgan's efforts do manage to win another corner.

OFF THE POST!

The corner is initially cleared but worked back into the middle, and Sam Mewis' late surge and header seems destined for the net, but Sari van Veenendaal spreads herself and gets in the way.

But the USA come again, Rapinoe whipping one along the six-yard box to the feet of Alex Morgan, who turns goal wards with the outside of her boot, the ball squirming through the legs of two defenders and nearly through van Veenendaal, too, but the goalkeeper gets just enough of a touch to divert the ball onto her right-hand post.

Top stop!

Another magnificent save from Sari van Veenendall. The ball is fired in to Alex Morgan 20 yards out and the American striker touches and turns, teeing the ball up beautifully for a crisp volley directed low to the near post, but van Veenendall sprawls across toe her left and palms the ball past the post.

That will hearten the Dutch, though, and again it's the pace of Lineth Beerensteyn troubling the two American centre-backs.

Abby Dahlkemper trips her 25 yards from goal, and into the referee's book she goes. A chance to have a go at goal from here. Left side of the box...
