From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

There have already been some big deals this transfer window. Manchester United wasted no time in snapping up Daniel James from Swansea City for £18m, while Eden Hazard finally completed his protracted move from Chelsea to Real Madrid, for a fee which could ultimately exceed £100m.
A number of big deals are meanwhile still in the pipeline. Both Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen have indicated that they want ‘new challenges’, while Matthijs de Ligt is a top target for just about every European super club. Where will he end up? Follow all of the latest below:

Arsenal are meanwhile set to push on with their first signing of the summer with a bid for Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser set to be lodged. A new centre-back is high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority list at United with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester’s Harry Maguire both options. Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another on the Norwegian’s radar.
It won’t just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature – if he drops his wage demands. And Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point.
Everton are in talks to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea after his successful season-long loan
The Toffees have already agreed a £22 million transfer of Andre Gomes from Barcelona, who also impressed on loan.
And the Telegraph believe Zouma is high on the list of priorities for Everton this summer, even though the player will return to Chelsea this summer, where the arrival of a new manager will influence whether he looks for a permanent move or not.
Marco Silva will hope to convince the France international his future is at Goodison, with the club hopeful the Blues' transfer ban will not alter their chances of landing the player.
AC Milan have announced Frederic 'Ricky' Massara has joined as their sporting director
The former Roma director will report to Paolo Maldini, who is now the club's Strategic Development Director of the Technical Area.
"We are very happy to welcome Frederic to our working team," Maldini said.
"Thanks to his preparation, seriousness and professionalism he will be an added value to AC Milan as well as being functional to the strategies to be undertaken in our growth path."
A former Crystal Palace youth team colleague of Aaron Wan-Bissaka does not begrudge his team-mate's success, after a post on social media about the contrast in their lives went viral.
Wan-Bissaka, 21, has been linked with a £50million move to Manchester United after a breakout season in the Premier League, and the full-back's rise to the top has put things in perspective for Charlie Rees.
The 19-year-old was a Palace youth player at the same time as Wan-Bissaka, and his tweet on the pair's very different football fortunes resonated on social media.
"One of these blokes is about to sign for United for 50 million, the other has just put a fiver's worth of petrol in his motor," Mr Rees tweeted, along with pictures of himself and Wan-Bissaka playing for Palace's youth sides.
The tweet received more than 75,000 likes and prompted thousands of comments.
Rangers have completed the signing of defender George Edmundson from Oldham, the Ladbrokes Premiership team have announced.
The 21-year-old centre-back becomes manager Steven Gerrard's sixth summer recruit after moving in a reported £650,000 deal.
Edmundson, who came through Oldham's youth ranks, has agreed a four-year deal at Ibrox, subject to international clearance.
