Manchester United and Arsenal were both in the headlines this afternoon as they considered moves for Paris Saint-Germain’s soon-to-be departed striker Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan is out of contract at the end of the season and available on a free transfer, and reports in his homeland suggest that offers have already been made from the two Premier League clubs along with Atletico Madrid. Chelsea meanwhile are on the hunt for a defender, with eyes on Issa Diop of West Ham and their former centre-back Nathan Ake at Bournemouth, with £40m bis prepared for both depending on who the club decide to focus on.
Tottenham Hotspur meanwhile are looking at Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti despite long-term interest from Arsenal and United, with the France international facing a somewhat uncertain future as Barca are keen to move him on this season, while another star defender who appears to be on the market is Juventus’s Matthijs de Ligt, who despite only arriving in Italy at the start of the season is already being linked with a loan move back to Ajax after failing to settle in Turin. United and Chelsea have both been linked with Dinamo and Spain star Dani Olmo. There could also be some big moves across Europe. Roy Hodgson has ridiculed the suggestion that Wilfried Zaha could join Bayern Munich on loan.
"A loan move to Bayern!? Was it serious? Where did you get the story from?
"I'll tell you what I'll do, is Karl-Heinz Rummenigge still there?
"I'll give Karl-Heinz a ring on that one, he's a friend of mine from way back and I'll say 'is it true that you seriously have actually put in a bid to loan our best player so we go into the last part of the season without our best player. Is it true?'
"Next time, if he says yes, I'll answer your question but I don't think he will."
Darren Randolph is on the verge of signing for Middlesbrough after the “longest medical in history”.
"It's the longest medical I've ever known in history and I've had a few medicals myself," joked Woodgate. "But this [medical] is unbelievable. Let's see what happens over the next 24 hours. Darren is a professional, he's been an outstanding keeper for us. We will wait and see."
Arsenal are reportedly interested in Stuttgart's Orel Mangala and would be willing to offer £26m immediately, according to HLN.
The 21-year-old Belgian midfielder came through Anderlecht's academy before joining the German side in 2017 following a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund. He spent last season on loan at Hamburg before returning to Stuttgart in the summer.

Victor Camarasa has ended his nightmare loan spell at Crystal Palace, joining Alaves on loan until the end of the season.
The midfielder, who joined Palace on loan from Real Betis at the start of the season, has played just five minutes under Roy Hodson in the Premier League.
Norwich City have signed Lukas Rupp from Hoffenheim.
The 29-year-old German midfielder joins on a two-and-a-half-year contract after spells with a number of Bundesliga sides.
“I was in the training camp in Marbella with Hoffenheim and then two days later, I’m here so it’s been very quick," Rupp said. "But I’m very happy to be here."
Marca report that Atletico Madrid are considering offering Arsenal a swap deal involving Thomas Lemar and Alexandre Lacazette.
It's said that Lacazette is the club's preferred candidate if their pursuit of PSG's Edinson Cavani fails this month.
Lemar has been offered to both Chelsea and Tottenham this month, but neither club is believed to have made a formal offer for the out-of-favour winger.
