Manchester United and Arsenal were both in the headlines as they consider moves for Paris Saint-Germain's soon-to-be departed striker Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan is out of contract at the end of the season and available on a free transfer, and reports in his homeland suggest that offers have already been made from the two Premier League clubs along with Atletico Madrid. Chelsea meanwhile are on the hunt for a defender, with eyes on Issa Diop of West Ham and their former centre-back Nathan Ake at Bournemouth, with £40m bids prepared for both depending on who the club decide to focus on.

Tottenham Hotspur meanwhile are looking at Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti despite long-term interest from Arsenal and United, with the France international facing a somewhat uncertain future as Barca are keen to move him on this season, while another star defender who appears to be on the market is Juventus's Matthijs de Ligt, who despite only arriving in Italy at the start of the season is already being linked with a loan move back to Ajax after failing to settle in Turin. United and Chelsea have both been linked with Dinamo and Spain star Dani Olmo. There could also be some big moves across Europe. Real Madrid have been linked with a £68m move for Timo Werner, as well as Flamengo wonder kid Reinier, while Arsenal have turned their eyes to RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano as a long-term target.

Norwich City have agreed a loan deal for Hertha Berlin midfielder Ondrej Duda, according to The Telegraph.

The Slovakia international, 25, has flown in from Germany to finalise the six-month deal, having lost his place in the Hertha side since former USMNT boss Jurgen Klinsmann took over in November.

Duda joined the Bundesliga team from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2016.

Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday are in the race to sign Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal, according to The Mirror.

The Arsenal striker started the season on loan at Leeds but started just two games for the Championship side and returned to north London this January.

Arsenal are open to him going back out on loan for the second half of the season – with Sheffield Wednesday desperate for a new forward after Steven Fletcher was ruled out for between 8-10 weeks with a knee injury.

Brighton boss Graham Potter wants to focus on improving the players he already has rather than get distracted by speculation over the club's January transfer targets.

The Seagulls head to Everton on Saturday seeking a response following the FA Cup third-round home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.

Brighton are expected to try to strengthen their squad as they battle for Premier League stability.

Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters is said to be on Potter's wanted list, along with RB Leipzig's Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha.

The Seagulls manager, though, does not intend to add any more fuel to the flames.

Instead, Potter will concentrate on getting the best out of the current group as they seek to make it three Premier League games without defeat.

"I'll get lots of names thrown at me during the window. At this time of the year people get linked everywhere for various reasons," Potter said.

"It's not fair on me to comment on any player that isn't ours."

A trio of Premier League clubs remain interested in signing Tottenham's Kyle Walker-Peters on loan, according to Sky.

The right-back, 22, is said to be the subject of interest from Brighton, Southampton and Crystal Palace.

Barcelona full-back Nelson Semedo is emerging as one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets this month, according to The Mirror.

Barcelona are in the process of trying to sign Emerson from Real Betis, meaning Semedo could be deemed surplus to requirements.

Spurs are desperate for a full-back, with Kyle Walker-Peters poised to go on loan and Serge Aurier struggling for form.

Aston Villa are considering making an approach for Burnley forward Jay Rodriguez, The Athletic has reported.

Burnley are apparently against letting the 30-year-old leave, especially given he joined as recently as last summer.

West Ham are closing in on the loan signing of Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.

The Daily Mail report that the Hammers have reached an agreement in principle to bring the 21-year-old to the London Stadium on an 18-month loan deal.

All that remains is to convince Benfica to let the £34m-rated Portugal international go.

Chelsea are said to have joined the race earlier in the week but it appears to be David Moyes who has won the race.

While Bayern Munich are keen on Wilfried Zaha, a rumoured approach from Chelsea is unlikely.

Manager Frank Lampard does not see the Crystal Palace and Ivory Coast winger as the right fit for his squad, according to 90min.

Newcastle's attempts to sign Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig have been dealt a blow.

The Magpies were said to be keen on a short-term loan deal for the England U21 international who left Everton in the summer.

However, the Northern Echo report that the German league leaders are only keen on a permanent move if they're to let the 22-year-old go this month.

They say they're looking for in the region of £22.5m.
