From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A new centre-back is high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's priority list at United with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester's Harry Maguire both options. It won't just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Paul Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature - if he drops his wage demands. Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point. Champions Manchester City are always big players in the market and could go big with the prospect of a potential transfer ban looming.
We'll have all the latest throughout the day here.

PSG are tracking Richarlison, le10sport claims.
The Everton striker, who is currently valued by his club at around £65m, is being lined up to replace either Julian Draxler or Ángel Di María.
That price-tag could prove a sticking point, though, with the French champions looking at a much lower figure.
Matthijs de Ligt is apparently open to a move to Manchester United.
That's what The Telegraph say.
A rebuild at Old Trafford built around the centre-back appeals to the 19-year-old.
It would certainly be an impressive signing if it goes through with Europe's biggest clubs going for the Ajax captain and United having to settle for Europa League football next season.
Ralph Hasenhüttl is looking to reunite with winger Ademola Lookman.
The Southampton manager worked with the 21-year-old during his loan spell at RB Leipzig in 2018 and may be ready to offer £20m to bring him to St. Mary's.
He'll have to fend off interest from Leipzig as well as south coast rivals Bournemouth to land the Englishman.
Nice are interested in signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
In an interview with Canal+, director Gilles Grimandi confirmed that he has spoken with manager Patrick Vieira about bringing the Frenchman to the French riviera.
The World Cup winner has only scored twice in the league this season and, at 32, may be ready to return to Ligue 1 seven years after leaving Montpellier for Arsenal in 2012.
Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in Boca Juniors centre-mid Agustín Almendra.
Il Mattino reports that the 19-year-old has attracted the attention of Napoli, Inter, Monaco, PSG, Benfica and Spurs.
Boca are apparently waiting for the Argentine to play in the Under-20 World Cup before a deal is made with any potential suitor, with Napoli offering around €25m.
Three Premier League sides are waiting to pounce for Spezia forward David Okereke, according to The Sun.
Newcastle, Wolves and Crystal Palace are monitoring the Nigerian's situation as Spezia play their first game of the Serie B play-offs this evening.
If they don't manage to win promotion Okereke is sure to leave with his club asking for around £8m.
Wolves are interested in AC Milan striker André Silva, says Corriere dello Sport.
23-year-old Silva, who's currently out on loan at Sevilla, is worth £26m.
Silva is represented by Jorge Mendes' GestiFute, so this could well be a go-er.
Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen could be on his way to Manchester United.
SPORT claim that the Dutchman, who is Barca's second-choice keeper, is being touted as one of the potential replacements for David De Gea, should he leave Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old is a regular starter for the Netherlands but has only made two appearances in La Liga this season.
United are also apparently among the sides interested in signing Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.
Mundo Deportivo reported that although Barcelona are favourites to land the striker, they're waiting until July 1 to make their move as the release clause in his contract will reduce from €200m to €100m.
They claim that United may be able to land the World Cup winner providing they do so before July.
Former Arsenal midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup is being linked with a move back to the Premier League by AKŞAM.
Everton want to sign the Beşiktaş captain, 26, who joined from the Gunners in 2012 and has won two league titles in Turkey but recently found himself consigned to the bench.
Valencia, Marseille and Lazio are also interested in the Turkey international, who may be available for €6-7m.
