Chris Wilder’s beleaguered side finally secured their first victory this season against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend and the Blades will be desperate to kickstart what would by now be a miraculous escape from relegation. United have taken just two points from their opening 17 matches, an astonishingly low total, particularly after their high-flying exploits last season. To pick up points, their priority must be to drastically improve their output up front, with just eight goals scored in the league all season.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are attempting to escape a negative spiral of their own, having gone seven games without a victory in all competitions. Frustrations continue to grow over Steve Bruce’s cautious tactics, but the manager has promised his side will offer more in the way of attacking adventure tonight. Despite being chalked off as another loss, the Magpies were bitterly unlucky against Arsenal in the FA Cup last time out. Andy Carroll spurned two magnificent chances in normal time before the Gunners went on to snatch victory in extra-time. Follow all the action live below:
Sean Dyche speaks to Sky Sports: "I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. We've been growing in performance levels. Some really good performances against a top side who are going well. The game's not about VAR for me. I thought there was a good account from both sides. They scored a goal from a deflection which is tough on the keeper because I think we defended very well."
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks to Sky Sports: "When you get three points in the Premier League it makes you smile. It was a hard-fought three points, though. It always is up here. [On disallowed Maguire goal] Definitely not a foul from Harry. I don't believe that's anywhere near a foul. Delighted with the response after a tough first half an hour. We played really well, you expect the onslaught in the last five minutes but we held out. [On Pogba] I've always said Paul is a big, big player for us, he's a big character in the dressing room, one the lads look to. We're seeing the best of Paul Pogba now. [On Liverpool game] We're going to the champions and we know it's going to be a difficult challenge, but we're ready for it. The lads are hungry and that's a test of their character and quality."

Burnley 0-1 Man United: Pogba’s volley proved the difference at Turf Moor
Paul Pogba speaks to Sky Sports: "We know that the game today was very hard and obviously we wanted to win. We know it's not easy to play here. [On disallowed Maguire goal] It was a goal for sure, he jumped and headed it and it was a beautiful goal. It was a strange decision, but we got the result we wanted. We could see that the game was going both ways - it's very hard to play here. They're very strong, so we had to keep our heads calm and focus on ourselves. It was a great performance from everyone. I'm always happy when we win, but like I said there's still a long way to go."

Burnley 0-1 Man United: An improved second-half showing from United saw Pogba earn the points
That game between Liverpool and Manchester United on Sunday now has extra significance. For the first time in a long time, it feels like a genuine title clash between the two clubs.
Burnley are still in 17th, three points clear of Fulham. But the Cottagers have two games in hand.
FULL-TIME: BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED
That’s it! United go top, climbing three points clear of Liverpool before Sunday’s trip to Anfield. Pogba’s goal is the difference between the sides, but United were good value in a much-improved second half. Burnley battled throughout, but lacked the cutting edge to threaten in the final third.
