From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Paul Pogba's brace bailed out Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side stuttered to a fortuitous 2-1 win against West Ham.

Tuesday's huge Champions League quarter-final challenge in Barcelona looms large, but attention first turned to securing a return to European football's top table next season.

United moved within two points of the top four as a pair of Pogba penalties sealed victory at Old Trafford, but those in attendance will know how fortunate Solskjaer's side were to have secured a point, never mind three.

That might be Karlan Grant's first touch in a remotely threatening area, trying desperately to keep a bouncing ball under control with a scorpion-style hook behind his back, but failing to keep the ball from Victor Wanyama's head as the Kenyan arrives to dispossess him by the penalty spot of the Tottenham box.

Lucas Moura and Fernando Llorente may be duelling for one starting berth with Harry Kane out and both have shown promise this afternoon.

They are very different players, of course, and Moura illustrates this with a mazy run between a couple of defenders, releasing a weak 25-yard shot that Ben Hamer collects comfortably at his feet.

And that's what Fernando Llorente does, getting his head to the ball at the near post but again not quite finding enough purchase to direct the ball into the corner, another flicked attempt wide of goal.

Little sign of action on the Tottenham bench, leaning back in a relaxed discussion with two of his assistants as the game drifts on.

A change and a reorganisation for Huddersfield. Steve Mounie is on for Erik Durm.

And they are nearly caught napping in the wake of the change, Ben Davies' shot blocked for a corner after Lucas Moura found space down the redesigned left of Huddersfield's defensive structure.

Chances at both ends, and two woeful attempts at finishing.

First it is Karlan Grant getting an opportunity to show his pace in behind, just taking too long as he lines up his shot and allowing Moussa Sissoko to get back and deflect back to Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham pounce on Huddersfield's enthusiasm to get forward and support Grant and counter at speed, Christian Eriksen finding Fernando Llorente who is likewise slow to release his shot, spurning an opportunity on his left to try to get the ball to his right foot and eventually crowded out.

The noise!

Quite the ovation for Moussa Sissoko from the home fans as they salute the Frenchman.

Oliver Skipp replaces him in midfield.

Oh, Steve Mounie...

Jonathan Hogg's pass is sublime and Mounie seems set to head home as he breaks behind the Spurs defence but directs his header wide of Hugo Lloris' goal.

It's a bad miss.

A few nervy touches from the Tottenham players as Huddersfield try to find the most unlikely of routes back into the game.

Mauricio Pochettino just needs to settle his side back down. They were in utter control and comfort.

Free kick, Huddersfield. 30 yards out, just left of centre.

Juninho Bacuna fancies a go...

A brilliant strike, and Hugo Lloris is a little slow getting across, tipping against the bar.
