From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Gabriel Jesus was denied a last-gasp winner by VAR as Tottenham Hotspur snatched a remarkable 2-2 draw against champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian looked to have claimed a deserved victory for City right at the death of an intriguing Premier League clash but his late strike was ruled out for a handball by Aymeric Laporte. The scenes as the goal was chalked off were reminiscent of the dramatic ending to last season's Champions League tie between the two sides at the same venue last season.

The ruling made the encounter extra frustrating for City, who had completely dominated proceedings and racked up 30 shots to the visitors' three.

Tottenham look rattled. They've barely ventured out of their own half in the opening 15 minutes. Crucially, though, it remains 0-0. City will feel they should have had a penalty, but that let off might lift Spurs.

A rare counter attack from the visitors. Sissoko surges down the right and lifts a cross towards the back post, where Lamela is waiting. He tries to guide a header past Ederson, but he's off balance and can't generate any power.

GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham (Sterling)

20 minutes

There it is! That's been coming. De Bruyne curls a brilliant cross to the back post and Sterling is there to head back across goal into the far corner. Lloris has no chance, and City lead. A fourth Premier League goal of the season just 20 minutes into the second game for Raheem Sterling.

GOAL! Manchester City 1-1 Tottenham (Lamela)

Out of nowhere, Tottenham are level! They've been spurred into action by that City opener. The ball is worked to Lamela on the edge of the box, and the Argentine, with time and space, curls the ball past Ederson into the bottom corner. City switch off and Spurs take advantage.

Tottenham have settled now. They look more secure at the back and a threat on the break. Winks attempts to launch another counter, but he's pulled down by Sterling, who goes into the book.

Manchester City 1-1 Tottenham

31 minutes

Tottenham have had much more of the ball since City's opener - close to 60%, in fact. They could have been overawed having fallen behind, but they've done well to fight back. City have a game on their hands here.
