From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. James Milner's penalty sent Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League but they were far from impressive in a 2-1 win at Fulham.

Milner had to climb off the bench to rescue his side with an 81st-minute spot-kick as Jurgen Klopp's men looked like they were going to drop two vital points in the title race.

A below-par Liverpool had gone ahead through Sadio Mane's first-half strike, but a poor error from Virgil Van Dijk was capitalised on by former winger Ryan Babel to level for Fulham in the 74th minute.

Fulham 0-1 Liverpool

28 minutes

It's all Liverpool now. Fulham deal with a corner but Salah is lurking on the edge of the box and goes for goal from distance. Rico just about holds onto it with Van Dijk ready to pounce.

Fulham are working hard off the ball and attempting to create chances when they win it back. But the gulf between the teams is clear to see. Liverpool are in complete control and you get the feeling they've yet to move out of first gear.

Liverpool nearly get a second through Robertson, who plays a one-two with Lallana and looks to beat Rico from a tight angle. Fulham's goalkeeper gets his body in the way, though, and the hosts remain just one goal down.

Babel has been the standout player for Fulham. He beats Alexander-Arnold with an impressive burst of speed and picks out Cairney. The midfielder's shot sails over the bar, but it at least gets the home fans off their seats.

Fabinho is the first player to go into the book for a late challenge on Cairney after some sloppy passing in midfield.

Fabinho, moments after his booking, slides in again and takes out Seri. The crowd want Craig Pawson to brandish a second yellow, but Liverpool's midfielder gets away with it.

Firmino finds himself in space on the edge of Fulham's box with red shirts to his left and right. But his pass is poor and goes behind for a goal kick. Liverpool, despite their dominance, haven't taken the game away from the home side yet.

One minute of added time will be played.

Half time: Liverpool go into the break with a narrow lead, but they've been in complete control at Craven Cottage. Mane's 20th goal of the season put them in front and they've been relatively untroubled at the back. It's difficult to see Fulham coming back into this one.

Mo Salah may be struggling for goals, but Sadio Mane certainly isn't. Don't be surprised if he finds the net again after the break.
