Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged fans to “trust” the judgement of Jurgen Klopp following the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolves.
The Portugal forward, who is expected to provide cover across the front three, cost the Reds £41m.
And Aldridge has made clear his view that it was a worthy investment.
“He's quick, his delivery is very good, he can play in a number of forward positions and he knows where the back of the net is," he told the Liverpool Echo.
“Don't forget a lot of his appearances for Wolves have come as a substitute so that paints a bit of a false picture when it comes to his creative ability.
“It might seem a lot of money to some people but Liverpool fans should trust the manager implicitly because look how many decisions he's got right.
“If he believes Jota is worth that, with Ki-Jana Hoever going the other way, it could turn out to be a really good deal for Liverpool.
“Our striking options are looking really good now. Mo Salah showed on the opening weekend he's as hungry as ever and Sadio Mane displayed what he's all about again at Chelsea.”
LIVERPOOL ANNOUNCE RECORD-BREAKING KIT SALES
Liverpool have revealed record-breaking kit sales following the release of their new kit last month.
The Liverpool Echo have reported that sales of the home shirt have seen an increase of 15%, while the away jersey is up by 30%.
The club’s partnership with Nike appears to have been a success so far.
DEMBELE OPTED TO ‘STAY AT BARCELONA’ DESPITE LIVERPOOL INTEREST
Ousmane Dembele “decided to stay at Barcelona” amid interest from Liverpool, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the France international, despite the recent signing of Diogo Jota from Wolves.
Manchester United are also rumoured to be pursuing a deal for Dembele, but it appears he is staying put for now.
RETURN OF FANS TO BE DELAYED
Liverpool fans will, it seems, have to wait a while longer to see the club’s new signings in action:
Premier League 'disappointed' at move to delay return of fans to stadiums
The planned return of spectators to sports venues in England from 1 October could be on hold for six months due to fears over a second wave of coronavirus infections
MANCHESTER UNITED IN TALKS WITH DEMBELE
Manchester United are in talks over a deal to sign Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, after Liverpool’s hopes of signing him on loan ended.
The Catalan club are only willing to let the 23-year-old leave on a permanent basis as they look to raise funds for a squad rebuild.
Daily Record have reported that ‘senior Old Trafford officials’ have spoken to Barcelona about a potential deal.
The asking price for Dembele is reportedly set at €100m.
ANDERLECHT SET ASKING PRICE FOR LIVERPOOL TARGET
Anderlecht have set an asking price of €30m for Liverpool target Jeremy Doku, according to Het Belang van Limburg - via Sport Witness.
The Reds were linked with the 18-year-old earlier this month but reports claimed they had withdrawn from a potential deal.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will go back in for Doku, who is supposedly viewed as possible long-term successor to Sadio Mane.
STEPHENSON SIGNS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT WITH LIVERPOOL
Midfielder Luca Stephenson has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool.
The 17-year-old joined the club from Sunderland at under-15 level and has impressed in the youth academy.
MBAPPE MORE LIKELY TO REMAIN AT PSG THAN JOIN LIVERPOOL
Paris Saint-Germain are unlikely to allow Kylian Mbappe to leave next summer, according to French football expert Jonathan Johnson.
The Frenchman has been linked with Real Madrid and Liverpool as he enters the final 18 months of his contract with PSG.
But Johnson has claimed neither of Mbappe’s potential suitors will be able to meet the Ligue 1 champions’ demands.
“I don’t see PSG giving up Mbappe easily,” he told Sky Sports. "I think if they need to they would probably allow him to enter the final 12 months of his contract in a bid to try to persuade him to extend his stay with the club.
“Kylian Mbappe is the future for this PSG project and I just don’t see them giving him up without a fight. I don’t think either of Real Madrid or Liverpool will be able to pay what PSG would even consider just to go to the table and negotiate next summer."
DERBY IN TALKS TO SIGN ANOTHER FORMER LIVERPOOL PLAYER
Derby are clearly not content with only bringing in one ex-Liverpool player.
After Jordan Ibe’s arrival, Bobby Duncan is the Championship club’s next target.
Sky Sports claim Derby are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Fiorentina to sign the 19-year-old striker.
Duncan has not made a single appearance for the Italian team since leaving Liverpool last year.
BARNES’ WARNING TO MANE
Liverpool legend John Barnes has warned that – as “fantastic” as Sadio Mane has been for the Reds – the Senegal forward should avoid doing a ‘Fernando Torres’ or ‘Luis Suarez’ in leaving too soon for fans’ liking.
Here’s what Barnes had to say when asked if Mane could emulate him:
John Barnes on how Sadio Mane can achieve ‘god’ status at Liverpool
Another former Red, Jamie Carragher, said the Senegal forward could soon reach Barnes’ status in fans’ eyes
