From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

United cruised into the last-16 with a win 6-1 aggregate win over Club Brugge in the first knockout round. Odion Ighalo scored his first goal for the club at Old Trafford on Thursday evening while fellow January signing Bruno Fernandes again impressed with a goal from the penalty spot. Wolves joined them in the next round despite second-leg defeat in Spain to Espanyol. Rangers produced a fine performance to win in Portugal on Wednesday and scrape past Braga. Arsenal and Celtic weren’t so fortunate, however, both suffering surprise exits at the hands of Olympiacos and Copenhagen, respectively.

Here's our report from a hectic game:
A reminder that it will be an open draw this morning.
That means there will be no seedings or country prediction with all teams eligible to play one another.
So prepare to see Manchester United play Wolves for the 4034th time this season.
There are a number of tricky clubs in today's draw, with Inter Milan and Sevilla among the favourites to win the tournament, but the side Manchester United and Wolves will perhaps most hope to avoid is Turkey's Istanbul Basaksehir.
The Turkish side are the furthest club away from the UK in the draw, meaning a potentially onerous away trip.
Plus they have old Premier League favourites Robinho and Demba Ba leading the line.
A reminder that the Round of 16 matches will be played on March 12 and March 19.
There were several surprising results last night as the Europa League's last 16 was confirmed.
Karl Matchett takes a look at some of the stories you might have missed:
Celtic are another team that crashed out of the tournament last night.
Here's how:
Arsenal aren't in today's draw and last night, after their defeat, Mikel Arteta admitted his side were distraught to crash out of the competition.
“It hurts, big time,” Arteta said.
“We had a lot of hope in this competition. It was a great way for us to be able to go to Europe and it is a very beautiful competition to try to win. I think we did a lot of positive things in the game; I think we created enough chances to win, but if you concede two set-pieces again in a tie like this you put yourself in big trouble.”
