From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England took on Cameroon in the Women's World Cup last 16 on Sunday afternoon.

Phil Neville's side are into the quarter-finals after an ill-tempered game where VAR took centre stage in Valenciennes. Steph Houghton opened the scoring, Ellen White added a second after a VAR review before Cameroon thought they had one back only for the technology to rule it out sparking chaos. Alex Greenwood made it three to seal their spot in the last eight.

A meeting with Norway now awaits on Thursday after the Scandinavians emerged from a tense game with Australia victorious on penalty kicks on Saturday evening.

GOAL! England 3-0 Cameroon (Greenwood 58')

Left-back Alex Greenwood scores after a brilliant corner routine!

Duggan's corner is low to the space in the middle of the box, and Greenwood swipes it home, left-footed, past Ngo Ndom!

And that is one foot in the quarter-finals...

Just over by Ellen White!

Duggan combines with Kirby, who chips it over the defence to find White whose clever lofted effort over the keeper has slightly too much power on it.

A substitution apiece: Jodie Taylor comes on for Ellen White up front for England.

For Cameroon, a switch at right-back: Ejangue comes off for Sonkeng.

Abam is through on goal for Cameroon, but Bardsley saves well down low to her right - the flag then goes up for offside!

Abam is then immediately substituted, for Abena.

Mayhem in the Cameroon box!

The goalkeeper Ndom spills a simple cross, and Taylor tries to set up Kirby on the follow-up but her chance is scuppered as the Cameroon defence recover!

74 minutes: England 3-0 Cameroon

England are in complete control now, retaining possession with relative ease, and making those Cameroon players run in hot conditions in Valenciennes.

Good opportunity for a fourth here!

Parris is found in behind by Kirby, who returns the favour. Kirby opts not to shoot, and passes to Taylor who rushes her shot and it sails harmlessly wide

A VAR check here for a penalty, as Kirby was potentially fouled in the box after she passed the ball to Taylor.

Not again, surely... the referee has gone over to have a look...

78 minutes: England 3-0 Cameroon

The referee opts not to give a penalty!

Kirby was clipped, but it was well after the ball was gone, and the referee decides to stick with a goal kick.

If anything else, a decision probably made in order to avoid more protests...
