From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jadon Sancho announced himself on the international stage in some style, scoring twice on a night when England's ruthless edge made up for some shambolic defending in a thrilling, high-scoring win against Kosovo.

A sell-out St Mary's crowd bore witness to the most entertaining qualifier in many a year as Gareth Southgate's men continued their march to Euro 2020 with an enthralling, if at times unconvincing, 5-3 victory on the south coast.

Defensive errors gifted Kosovo a shock opener and then second-half hope, but a clinical first half proved decisive as Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane goals were complemented by an own goal and quickfire brace from Sancho in a helter-skelter clash.

GOAL! England 5-2 Kosovo (Berisha)

49 minutes

This Kosovo side certainly won't be giving up! They pull a goal back, helped again by some sloppy England defending. Rice gives the ball away in midfield and Muriqi takes advantage, playing an excellent pass out to Berisha on the left. He cuts onto his right foot and slots the ball into the far corner.

England 5-2 Kosovo

Kosovo are not content to keep the scoreline down in this second half. They want more goals. They're pressing high and very nearly create another chance by robbing England of the ball on the edge of their own box. Berisha, who's on a hat-trick, overcooks his pass, though.

Penalty for Kosovo! England don't deal with a ball into the box and Muriqi goes down under a challenge from Maguire. A chance to get back within two goals...

GOAL! England 5-3 Kosovo (Muriqi)

55 minutes

Pickford gets a hand to Muriqi's penalty, but can't keep it out. What a start to the second half for Kosovo!

England 5-3 Kosovo

58 minutes

England are straight back on the attack, but they haven't cut Kosovo apart as they did towards the end of the first half. Whatever Challandes changed at half time has worked for the visitors.

Kosovo make a second change: Anel Rashkaj replaces Voca.

England 5-3 Kosovo

62 minutes

England have regained a little composure having allowed Kosovo back into the game. They're controlling possession again, searching for another goal, which would surely put the game beyond the away side.

England 5-3 Kosovo

63 minutes

Penalty for England! Barkley drives forward from midfield, makes his way into the box and goes down under a challenge from Rrahmani, who goes into the book. Kane will take it...

England 5-3 Kosovo

65 minutes

Kane, normally so reliable, sees his penalty saved by Muric! The goalkeeper dives to his right and guesses correctly. There was a long delay before Kane took that, which probably didn't help.

England 5-3 Kosovo

Sterling weaves his way towards the box but he's dispossessed before he can shoot or play a pass. England, absurdly, will feel they need a sixth goal to make this game safe.
